Variety reports that Broadway revivals of 'Bye Bye Birdie' and 'Merrily We Roll Along' are contenders for the 2009-10 season at the Roundabout Theater Company, with the 'Birdie' production potentially opening the newly rebuilt Henry Miller's Theater. Composer Stephen Sondheim has been talking up an upcoming Roundabout staging of 'Merrily,' his 1981 tuner penned with book writer George Furth, at public appearances. And Roundabout a.d. Todd Haimes has previously expressed his desire to produce the show.

Sean Mahon will join the Tony Award-winning quick-change comedy as Richard Hannay on Wednesday, January 21, when the production moves to the Helen Hayes Theatre (240 West 44th Street). Jill Paice will replace the previously announced Laura Benanti in the role of Anne Egerman in the Roundabout Theatre Company's gala benefit concert reading of A Little Night Music. Laura Benanti, has withdrawn under a doctor's orders because of a serious throat infection. Benanti is currently starring as Louise/Gypsy in the revival of Gypsy. She is expected to continue to perform in her Tony winning role in Gypsy which closes on Sunday January 11th, but the added rehearsals and peformance of 'Night Music' was considered too much in regards to her throat ailment.
'Good Morning America NOW' went behind-the-scenes at Broadway's THE 39 STEPS on this morning's broadcast. In the taped segment, 'Good Morning America NOW' took a look at the Tony Award-winning quick-change comedy version of the 1935 Hitchcock film classic, interviewing cast members Arnie Burton and Jeffrey Kuhn and showing some of the organized chaos backstage during the running of a typical performance.
