NY Philharmonic Announces Upcoming Holiday Concerts

The New York Philharmonic will celebrate the holiday season with programs that feature a variety of seasonal favorites and performers: 'Holiday Brass,' Handel's Messiah, and an All-American New Year's Eve Concert.

Thomas Hampson to Make Debut as NY Philharmonic's Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence 11/5, 11/7, 11/10

Baritone Thomas Hampson will give his first performances as the New York Philharmonic's Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence when he joins the Orchestra, led by Neeme Järvi, for performances of Zemlinsky's Lyric Symphony, Thursday, November 5, 2009, at 7:30 p.m., Friday, November 6, at 8:00 p.m., Saturday, November 7, at 8:00 p.m., and Tuesday, November 10, at 7:30 p.m.

New York Philharmonic Announces Details of National Weekly Radio Broadcasts, 'The New York Philharmonic This Week' - Alec Baldwin to Host, 10/19-11/30

The New York Philharmonic This Week - a two-hour, national, weekly radio program of concerts by the New York Philharmonic - continues the week of October 19 with a presentation from the Philharmonic's seventh annual residency in Vail, Colorado, as part of the Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival. The concert program, from July 30, 2009, features Music Director Alan Gilbert leading the Orchestra in Mozart's Symphony No. 41, Jupiter, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 7. The final broadcast in October features a Summertime Classics program from July 7-8, 2009, with conductor Bramwell Tovey: J. Strauss II's Overture to The Gypsy Baron, Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 2 with soloist Simone Dinnerstein, Brahms's Hungarian Dances Nos. 4 and 10, and R. Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier Suite.

NY Philharmonic Announces Thomas Hampson as Leonard Bernstein Scholar-In-Residence & Educational Programs for 2009-10 Season

American baritone Thomas Hampson has been named the Leonard Bernstein Scholar-in-Residence at the New York Philharmonic for the 2009-10 season in conjunction with his role as The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence. Mr. Hampson will present two Insight Series events and the Annual Erich Leinsdorf Lecture in a series entitled 'Listening to Thought,' exploring the interplay of verbal and musical languages in vocal music.

Lindberg Titles '09-10 Opening Night World Premiere EXPO & Other Season Updates

The world premiere by New York Philharmonic Composer-in-Residence Magnus Lindberg that will open the 2009-10 season - Alan Gilbert's debut season as Music Director - has been titled EXPO. The work, commissioned by the New York Philharmonic, will be the first piece on the Philharmonic's opening night program, conducted by Mr. Gilbert on September 16, 2009. 'I wanted to give it a strong, celebratory title,' explains Mr. Lindberg. The work will be the first of two World Premiere-New York Philharmonic Commissions by Mr. Lindberg to be performed in the 2009-10 season.

MET Opera Offers Free Weekend To View Audio & Visual Performances Beginning 5/1

The Metropolitan Opera will offer a free weekend of unlimited access to Met Player, the subscription service that makes much of the company's extensive video and audio catalog of full-length performances available to the public online, in exceptional, state-of-the-art quality. The free preview begins at 5pm ET on Friday, May 1, and runs through midnight on Sunday, May 3.

The MET Celebrates 125th Anniversary with Gala Performance 3/15

The Metropolitan Opera celebrates its 125th anniversary year with a unique gala performance on March 15, 2009 at 6:00 p.m., featuring Met stars in recreations of historic classic productions and high points in the company's past. Music Director James Levine conducts the evening of 26 staged scenes that, with the use of projections, and scenic and costume recreations, will evoke the Met's illustrious history.
