MAMMA MIA! to Launch Playhouse on the Square's 2016-17 Season

?The 2016 - 2017 season at Playhouse on the Square will begin with one of the longest running Broadway musicals, the smash hit Mamma Mia! Featuring some of Abba's biggest hits, this crowd-pleasing favorite played for over 14 years on Broadway.

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley will bring U.S. audiences their first look a London hit, when it presents the American Premiere of the joyous musical revue The Life of the Party. Directed and co-created by David Babani, the Artistic Director of London's Menier Chocolate Factory, this rollicking musical journey celebrates the songs of Tony Award-nominated composer Andrew Lippa (The Wild Party, The Addams Family, Big Fish) who takes the stage as a featured performer, along with a cast of Broadway and West End veterans, bringing to life a hilarious, uplifting, memorable evening. Today, Luther Burbank Center for the Arts (The Center) announced the addition of two exciting literary events for this Fall in partnership with Copperfield's Books.  On Thursday September 22, 2016 at 7 p.m., the acclaimed New York Times bestselling author behind “Bel Canto,” Ann Patchett, comes to Santa Rosa for an intimate evening to discuss her latest novel, “Commonwealth.” On Thursday October 27, 2016 at 7 p.m., award-winning chef and Emmy Award-winning host of ABC's “The Chew”,Mario Batali, joins audiences at The Center to discuss his latest and most ambitious cookbook to date, “Big American Cookbook: 250 Favorite Recipes from Across the USA.”The Center also announced today that single tickets for the previously announced 2016-2017 Symphony Pops Series and Clover Stornetta Family Fun Series will be available on Friday, August 12 at noon.

Chautauqua Theater to Present THE GLOW OVERHEAD as Final 2016 Signature Staged Reading

Chautauqua Theater Company (CTC) continues its significant commitment to new play development under the co-leadership of Artistic Directors Vivienne Benesch and Andrew Borba with Signature Staged Readings of The Glow Overhead written by Nick Gandiello, and directed by Sherri Eden Barber, running August 3 - 5 as part of the 2016 season's New Play Workshop. The Glow Overhead plays on the Bratton Theater stage at the Chautauqua Institution.

CHICK FLICK THE MUSICAL to Premiere This Fall in Chicago

Grab your friends and head out for an evening of humor, heart, and harmony as Chick Flick the Musical comes to The Royal George Theatre Cabaret, 1641 N. Halsted Street in Chicago. This uniquely female-positive new musical begins previews November 1, and opens November 10 for an open run.

EDWIN, THE STORY OF EDWIN BOOTH to Bring Stage History Off-Broadway This Fall

For their inaugural offering, Great Circle Productions will present the world premiere of EDWIN, The Story of Edwin Booth, a dramatic musical that commemorates the 150th Anniversary (1866-2016) of the legendary actor's return to the stage, as well as the 400th Anniversary of the birth of William Shakespeare, with music by Marianna Rosett, and book & lyrics by Eric Swanson.

A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM at Totem Pole Playhouse

Totem Pole Playhouse, Pennsylvania's premiere summer theatre located in Caledonia State Park between Gettysburg and Chambersburg, PA, presents A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum July 30 through August 14. One of the funniest musical comedies ever written, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum features the music and lyrics of legendary composer Stephen Sondheim and book by multiple Tony and Emmy Award-winning writer Larry Gelbart, who created the smash TV series 'M*A*S*H.' The musical, sponsored by Walker, Connor & Spang LLC, is directed by playhouse veteran David Hemsley Caldwell, and closes out the theatre's 2016 summer season, sponsored by Franklin County Visitors Bureau.

This summer Theatreworks USA, the nation's leading not-for-profit professional theatre for young audiences, presents the Off-Broadway Premiere of Junie B.'s Essential Survival Guide to School. Performances began Wednesday July 20th at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street, between Bleecker and Hudson Streets). The Annual Opening Night Benefit is tonight, July 27th (6:30 PM).
