Kopit and Yeston's thrilling musical 'Phantom,' a new and character-based telling of the famous Paris Opera House legend, opens August 12 on the newly rebuilt Moonlight Amphitheatre stage for Moonlight Stage Productions' 2009 Summer Season.

It was announced earlier this month that the new musical VANITIES will receive an original cast album. The three-woman cast of the show, which recently performed its New York premiere Off-Broadway at Second Stage Theatre, headed into studio yesterday to record the album for Sh-K-Boom Records.

Old Globe Executive Producer Lou Spisto today announced the complete cast and creative team for the world premiere of Sammy, a new musical based on the life of Sammy Davis, Jr. with book, music and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse, and additional songs by Bricusse and Anthony Newley. Directed by Keith Glover with choreography by Keith Young and music supervision by Ian Fraser, Sammy will run in the Old Globe Theatre Sept. 19 - Nov. 8. Previews run from Sept. 19 - Oct. 1. Opening night is Oct. 2 at 8:00 p.m.

Starlight Theatre and the Helen Woodward Animal Center have partnered together to train an 'orphaned' dog to star in Annie for their summer season. The adorable one-year old Barney, a terrier and golden retriever mix, is currently waiting at the Helen Woodward for his debut on opening night. Together, with owner/operator Rob Kuty of San Diego Pet Training, Barney has trained over the past few months to perform his first and last stage role as Sandy in the family musical classic Annie.

The adorable one-year old Barney, a terrier and golden retriever mix, is currently waiting at the Helen Woodward for his debut on opening night. Second Stage Theatre (Carole Rothman, Artistic Director; Ellen Richard, Executive Director) will conclude its 30th Anniversary mainstage season with the New York premiere of VANITIES, a new musical written by Jack Heifner, featuring music and lyrics by David Kirshenbaum, directed by Judith Ivey. With musical staging by Dan Knechtges, VANITIES will feature Lauren Kennedy, Sarah Stiles, and Anneliese van der Pol and will begin preview performances on Thursday, July 2. Opening night is Thursday, July 16 at 6:30pm
