The Branford Marsalis Quartet was formed in 1986 and quickly raised the bar for other ensembles of its kind. The New York Times praised the group's most recent album release, Four MF's Playin' Tunes (2012), as "a knockout: hard-nosed and hyperacute, tradition-minded but modern."
