EgoPo's MACHINAL Opens 4/22

On April 22, EgoPo presents the opening of Sophie Treadwell's expressionist masterpiece, Machinal. Machinal is directed by Brenna Geffers, whose most recent work with EgoPo includes Eugene O'Neill's The Hairy Ape, and Henrik Ibsen's Lady from the Sea and A Doll's House.

EgoPo's THE WOMEN to Open 3/4

On March 4, EgoPo presents the opening of Clare Boothe Luce's comic masterpiece, The Women with an all-female cast of 19. Directed by Artistic Director Lane Savadove, EgoPo Classic Theater continues their season of influential female playwrights with Luce, a woman who led an extraordinary life as a Broadway playwright, war journalist, congresswoman, ambassador, and Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient. The Women previews March 3 and opens Friday, March 4. The show runs three weeks, closing on Sunday March 20. Tickets start at $25. All performances are at the Latvian Society of Philadelphia on 7th and Spring Garden.

EgoPo Classic Theater explores these themes with their season opener Lillian Hellman's THE CHILDREN'S HOUR, staged by special guest director, Adrienne Mackey. The Hypocrites to Stage THE 4TH GRADERS PRESENT AN UNNAMED LOVE-SUICIDE This Fall

The Hypocrites is pleased to continue its 2015-16 season with THE 4TH GRADERS PRESENT AN UNNAMED LOVE-SUICIDE by Artistic Director Sean Graney, co-directed by Joel Ewing and Mechelle Moe, featuring students from Senn Arts Magnet High School's "The Yard." This special collaboration will play eight performances only October 30 - November 8, 2015 at The Den Theatre's Heath Main Stage, 1329 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago.

Adrienne Mackey to Direct EgoPo's THE CHILDREN'S HOUR

EgoPo welcomes guest director Adrienne Mackey, the founder of Swim Pony Performing Arts, to bring this classic to new life. Mackey is a locally celebrated director who creates original and compelling theater using the power of the human voice and the forms of the human body. Her works include The Ballad of Joe Hill for the Live Arts Festival and The Master and Margarita for Mum Puppettheatre. She is a past winner of CEC's New Edge Residency and the Independence Arts Fellowship.

Selina Fillinger Wins 2015 Judith Barlow Prize; Kathleen Chalfant to Direct Play Reading, 5/3

HISTORY MATTERS/BACK TO THE FUTURE, a coalition of theatre professionals, announced the winner of the 1st annual Judith Barlow Prize is Selina Fillinger, a student at Northwestern University, who wrote a one-act play inspired by Sophie Treadwell's play Machinal. Ms. Fillinger will receive $2,500, a trip to New York City and a staged reading of her play on Sunday, May 3rd at 3 pm at Helen Mills Theater, 139 West 26th Street, NYC. Award-winning actress Kathleen Chalfant will direct the reading which is free and open to the public.

BWW Review: MACHINAL Proves Rollins College Is One of Orlando's Best Theatre Companies

One of the reasons that I especially enjoy going to quality collegiate theatre is that, while these programs want to have as many people in the audience as possible, for obvious exposure and financial reasons, they are far more focused on presenting interesting and challenging works that prepare their students for whatever artistic careers they eventually pursue. Rollins College's production of MACHINAL, running through February 21st, will not be for everyone, but thankfully, director and Department Chair Dr. David Charles has larger goals in mind for this program.

On Monday, March 16, 2015, the League of Professional Theatre Women (LPTW), a not-for-profit organization committed to promoting visibility and increasing opportunities for women in the professional theatre, is pleased to recognize the talents of five outstanding women: Mary-Mitchell Campbell, Kathleen Chalfant, Sandra A. History Matters Extends Application Deadline For Judith Barlow Prize

HISTORY MATTERS/BACK TO THE FUTURE, a coalition of theatre professionals, has announced the application deadline for the new Judith Barlow Prize has been extended to December 30th, 2014 to better align with the academic calendar. The Judith Barlow Prize will award $2,500 annually to a student playwright of a one-act play inspired by the work of an historic woman playwright whom she/he has studied. In addition, a $1000 prize will be awarded to the runner up and a $500 prize will be awarded to the winning student's professor who participated in the One Play at a Time initiative.
