America's Orchestra opened its 129th spring season with Keith Lockhart conducting and Jason Alexander as special guest artist. Best known as Seinfeld's best buddy George Costanza, the Tony Award-winning Alexander is a consummate showman and offered a celebration of Broadway music to complement the Pops' selections by American masters from Copland to Ellington to Gershwin.
This week, continuing our show-by-show analysis of the entire canon of Stephen Sondheim's theatre scores, we are taking a listen to the various cast recordings of that other legendary musical Sondheim helped to create early in his career, a show which is currently wowing them every night in its hit revival at the Broadway Theatre, WEST SIDE STORY.

Following that, they will be joined by Harold Prince, John Kander and Sheldon Harnick for a discussion entitled 'The Authors and the Creators.'
