The Flea Theater today announced a second extension of the New York Premiere of THESE SEVEN SICKNESSES, a 5-hour marathon of all seven of Sophocles' plays re-envisioned by playwright Sean Graney, directed by Ed Sylvanus Iskandar, and starring The Bats.
On Friday March 2, 2012, New Georges (Susan Bernfield, Artistic Director; Sarah Cameron Sunde, Deputy Artistic Director; Jaynie Saunders Tiller, Managing Director), the OBIE-winning Off Off Broadway theatre company, will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a benefit Birthday Bash at 3LD Art & Technology Center, 80 Greenwich Street, Lower Manhattan. The evening will include cocktails, catered hors d'oeuvres, special performances which include moments from New Georges' first 20 years, and a dance party.
Cherry Lane Theatre's award-winning MENTOR PROJECT will continue its 13th season with a production of EVOLUTION, written and performed by Patricia Buckley, directed Michele Chivu and mentored Jean-Claude van Itallie with performances scheduled March 13 through March 24 at Cherry Lane Studio Theatre (38 Commerce Street in Manhattan), where the 2012 MENTOR PROJECT is in residence through April 14.

There is anger at the way men perceive women - and abuse, rape, belittle and objectify them. Owen's woman-hating fantasy may not reflect reality, but that doesn't make it harmless. That point can make the show hard to watch at moments, as it wends its way through scenes of imagined rape and murder. But it wouldn't do to look away. There's painful humor at every painful turn.
