Nuffield Southampton Theatres present the world premiere of SS Mendi: Dancing the Death Drill by critically acclaimed Cape Town-based Isango Ensemble. Part of 14-18 NOW, the UK's official arts programme for the First World War centenary, the production commemorates an untold tragedy from WW1 that took place off the coast of Southampton. Prior to rehearsals beginning Samuel Hodges, Director of Nuffield Southampton Theatres will visit Cape Town where the SS Mendi began its journey. Mark Dornford-May directs the production which opens at Nuffield Southampton Theatres on Wednesday 4 July with previews from Friday 29 June and performances until Saturday 14 July. Dubbed the 'Black Titanic', the sinking of SS Mendi was one of the worst maritime disasters in the 20th century in UK waters.
Final casting is announced for the first complete London revival of Noel Coward's Tonight at 8.30 since 1936, being staged by Jermyn Street Theatre as part of its The Reaction Season - 15 plays and musicals - 12 of them one-act - based around themes of reacting and re-enacting.
Defibrillator and Arcola Theatre, today announces cast for world stage premiere of Mike Bartlett's, Not Talking. Rose Theatre Kingston today announces its 2018 Christmas show, a festive new version with original music of the Brothers' Grimm classic Hansel & Gretel written by Ciaran McConville, who returns to the theatre following last year's successful adaptation of Alice in Winterland. Rosie Jones will direct a cast of local young actors from Rose Youth Theatre led by a team of professional actors. The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre (The Gamm) closes its 2017-18 season with William Shakespeare's romantic comedy As You Like It. Chock full of word play, music, clowns, and a timely message, As You Like It is the perfect play to close Season 33 and mark The Gamm's final show in Pawtucket. The theater will reopen in September in its new home at 1245 Jefferson Boulevard in Warwick.
