"The Christmas Schooner" has been performed in the Chicago area every year, except for one, since 1995. And yet, I know for a fact that new theatergoers are discovering it all the time. Hence, it's a good thing that the Mercury Theater on Southport Avenue has mounted this story--based on a real slice of Chicago history--for the second year, and has already announced it for next year as well. It's one of the most popular musicals across the country to originate in Chicago, and we are proud to call it our own.

Sundance Institute announced today the films selected to screen in the 2013 Sundance Film Festival out-of-competition sections Spotlight, Park City at Midnight and New Frontier, as well as the installations and performances to be featured in the Festival's New Frontier venue. THE PLATFORM is a new concert series created by composer Drew Gasparini for the purpose of giving new writers, singers and artists a Platform to showcase their work in front of a New York audience. The show will be at THE FLUTE in Gramercy.

The FSU Student Theatre Association presents the world premier of Alexander Sage Oyen's haunting original musical A Night Like This directed by FSU senior and FSU STA artistic director Blayze Teicher. American Blues Theater (ABT), Chicago's second oldest Equity ensemble, continues its 2012-2013 season with a return engagement of the critically acclaimed It's a Wonderful Life: Live at the Biograph!, directed by Marty Higginbotham, at the Victory Gardens Biograph Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln Ave., November. 23 - December 30.

American Blues Theater (ABT), Chicago's second oldest Equity ensemble, has announced a special festivities in conjunction with their production of It's a Wonderful Life: Live at the Biograph!, directed by Marty Higginbotham, at the Victory Gardens Biograph Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln Ave., Sunday, Dec. 9 at 2:30 p.m.

The O'Shaughnessy presents TU Dance's Fall Concert, opening the company's ninth Twin Cities season. The program features the world premiere of Uri Sands' Feather and Bone, inspired by the work of Canadian photographer Gregory Colbert, as well as favorites from the company's repertory, including Camille Brown's Strum (2012), and Sands' Amusement of the Gods (2010).

THE TENANT by Bill Donnelly is a play in which a working-class midtown couple take a Korean immigrant woman into their hearts. Depending on how you see it, it becomes the tragedy of a lonely woman's unsuccessful act of kindness or the perilous seduction of an innocent couple by her mystic approach to love, life and healing. It's a bittersweet everyday story of love and destiny with a TWILIGHT ZONE touch. Theater for the New City will present the play tonight, November 15 to December 2, directed by Vincent J. Balzano.
