Ford's Theatre Society (FTS) announced today that Board of Trustee member Nick Chabraja, Chairman of General Dynamics, has been named chairman of The Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Campaign, a $50+ million capital campaign to support the renovation of Ford's Theatre and its museum, as well as the building of the new Center for Education and Leadership.
The New York Times is reporting that Lincoln Center is the recipient of a recent $10 million grant from David M. Rubenstein, Managing Direct of the Carlyle Group. Throughout his career, focused largely on launching and managing the Carlyle Group (a private equity firm), Rubenstein has amasses a personal fortune of $2.7 billion. The grant will go towards Lincoln Center's much anticipated redevelopment project now underway.
‘Getting to Know You: Rodgers & Asia' - a symposium exploring the successes and controversies in Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals -- 'The King and I,' 'South Pacific,' and 'Flower Drum Song,' will be presented October 5 at David Henry Hwang Theater. The event will include musical performances by Jose Llana and Jennifer Paz. It is the third subscription program this season for the New York Festival of Song, whose 2008 CD Spanish Love Songs, featuring Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, Joseph Kaiser, Steven Blier and Michael Barrett (Bridge Records) was named one of the 'Best Of the Year' by Opera News.
