Prepare ye, for a Godspell mega-reunion! Fifty years ago, on May 17, 1971, a musical phenomenon opened off-Broadway. What began as a master's thesis project for Carnegie Mellon student John-Michael Tebelak, would go on to entertain the masses on Broadway and off, in Toronto, multiple national tours, on the big screen and of course, eventually at regional and amateur theatres all over the world.
Collecting premieres around the world since 1971, when it reached Broadway, the classical musical comedy by Stephen Schwartz and John-Michael Tebelak, based on the parables of the Gospel of St. Matthew, is back to Sao Paulo with a new look, directed by Dagoberto Feliz
On February 15, 2016 HAMILTON will perform its opening number live at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards. Only eight musicals (nine, if you count RIVERDANCE) have had this honor since the first Grammy Award ceremony in 1959. HAMILTON will make history, yet again, as the first show to perform via satellite during the ceremony; while the ceremony is at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, the cast will be performing on their set at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City.
Now that the 50th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony is history, and before the Tony Awards season sneaks up on us, it might be a good time to do a little investigating into the relationship between the category that both award shows recognize-Best Musical, of course.
