Robert Spano to Lead World Premiere of Mark Grey's FIRE ANGELS, 3/20-21

Music Director Robert Spano will lead the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO), soprano Jessica Rivera, and tenor Stuart Skelton in the world premiere of Mark Grey's Fire Angels March 20, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. and March 21, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. in Atlanta Symphony Hall at the Woodruff Arts Center.

Joseph Young Named New Assistant Conductor of ASO and Music Director of Youth Symphony

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) announced today that Joseph Young has been named the new ASO Assistant Conductor and Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra (ASYO) Music Director. Mr. Young, most recently the Resident Conductor of the Phoenix Symphony, will begin his new post on June 1, 2014. His initial contract is for one year, with the opportunity for an extension.

Donald Runnicles to Guest Conduct ASO, Begin. 3/13

Principal Guest Conductor Donald Runnicles will make his first appearance this season leading the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) March 13, 2014, at 8:00 p.m., March 15, 2014, at 7:30 p.m., and March 16, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. in Atlanta Symphony Hall at the Woodruff Arts Center.

Flutist Jeffrey Khaner to Make ASO Debut, 3/6

Jeffrey Khaner, the Principal Flutist of the Philadelphia Orchestra, will make his Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) debut performing Jonathan Leshnoff's Flute Concerto with Music Director Robert Spano and the Orchestra on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. in Atlanta Symphony Hall at the Woodruff Arts Center. Mr. Khaner and Mr. Spano gave the world premiere of this work together in 2011 in Philadelphia.

Orchestra Seattle and the Seattle Chamber Singers Present FRIENDSHIP AND IMAGINATION, 2/8

The 44th Season of Orchestra Seattle and the Seattle Chamber Singers (OSSCS) continues with a February 8, 2014 concert inspired by the human spirit. Guest conductor Stilian Kirov, associate conductor of the Seattle Symphony, conducts this evening concert, Friendship and Imagination. It includes The Enchanted Lake by Russian composer Anatoly Liadov, Violin Concerto in E Minor, Op 64 byFelix Mendelssohn and Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky with orchestrations by Maurice Ravel. Elisa Barston, principal second violinist of the Seattle Symphony is the guest soloist for the evening.

Baltimore Symphony Performs World Premiere of Jonathan Leshnoff's Guitar Concerto Tonight

On the heels of Baltimore-based composer Jonathan Leshnoff's Carnegie Hall debut and five-city tour of the song cycle 'Monica Songs' in October 2013, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO), led by BSO Music Director Marin Alsop, performs the world premiere of his Guitar Concerto tonight, January 9 and January 12, 2014 at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. The work features acclaimed guitarist and fellow Baltimorean Manuel Barrueco.

Roberto Abbado to Lead ASO in DAWN ON THE MOSCOW RIVER, 1/30-2/1

Guest conductor Roberto Abbado will lead the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) in "Dawn on the Moscow River" - the Prelude to Mussorgsky's opera, Khovanshchina - January 30, 2014, at 8:00 p.m., January 31, 2014, at 8:00 p.m., and February 1, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. in Atlanta Symphony Hall at the Woodruff Arts Center. Khovanshchina chronicles the turbulent years in Russia leading to the rise of Tsar Peter the Great.

STAGE TUBE: Osvaldo Golijov on BSO's 'La Pasion Segun San Marcos'

Atlanta Symphony Orchestra music director Robert Spano, whose ties to the BSO go back two decades, returns to lead a work given its United States premiere by the BSO under his direction in 2001-Osvaldo Golijov's La Pasion segun San Marcos ('The Passion According to St. Mark'). The Jewish, Latin American-raised Golijov was one of four composers from different religious and musical traditions asked to compose a Passion setting to mark the 250th anniversary of Bach's death and the end of the second millennium. Golijov's vibrant, immediate, pan-Latin American approach draws on multiple musical and Christian traditions in presenting this universal narrative. The BSO is joined by a cast of stylistically diverse performers central to the original creation of this remarkable piece.

Pianist Wu Han to Make ASO Debut in January

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) will welcome two debuts in January. First, acclaimed pianist Wu Han - named Musical America's 2012 Musician of the Year - will make her ASO debut playing Britten's Piano Concerto. Additionally, two enormous bronze church bells, one of only a few sets in the U.S., will make their debut during Berlioz's iconic Symphonie fantastique. Led by Music Director Robert Spano, audiences can experience these concerts on January 23, 2014, at 8:00 p.m., January 25, 2014, at 7:30 p.m., and January 26, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. in Atlanta Symphony Hall at the Woodruff Arts Center.

American Composers Announce Kendall Williams as Their Van Lier Emerging Composer Fellow for 2013-2014

New York, NY – American Composers Orchestra (ACO) is pleased to announce that Kendall Williams will be the orchestra's Van Lier Emerging Composer Fellow for the 2013-2014 season. The Fellowship, established in 1999, offers a comprehensive and multi-faceted program that equips emerging composers with the full range of professional skills and tools necessary for building a successful career as a composer of orchestral music. This year's Fellow, Kendall Williams, received his B.A. in Music from Florida Memorial University and M.M. in Music Theory & Composition from NYU Steinhardt, studying with Julia Wolfe, Michael Gordon, and Rich Shemaria. His main instrument is the steel pan.
