The Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle (LADCC) has announced its nominations and special awards for excellence in Los Angeles, Orange County and Ventura County theatre for the year 2017 (Dec. 1, 2016 Nov. 30, 2017).
Center Theatre Group's production of 'Amelie, A New Musical' at the Ahmanson Theatre opened December 16 and continues through January 15, 2017. Based on the motion picture written by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Guillaume Laurant, 'Amelie, A New Musical' will have its Broadway premiere at the Walter Kerr Theatre, beginning performances on March 9, 2017 and opening April 3, 2017.
At recent meeting of the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle, the LADCC welcomed two new and two returning members for its 2017 year. Both F. Kathleen Foley of the Los Angeles Times and Rob Stevens of Haines His Way have returned to the circle and are joined by new members, Erin Conley of On Stage & Screen and Frances Baum Nicholson of Stage Struck Review and SCNG. The 2017 Circle includes 24 critics from throughout Los Angeles and Orange County. The 2017 LADCC Awards information, including nominees and the venue and date of the ceremony will be announced soon.

The musical will have its world premiere tonight, September 10, and continue through September 27, 2015 at the Grove Theatre in Burbank, CA. The Disney Channel's Corey Fogelmanis ("Farkle" on Girl Meets World), who appears as a Special Guest on the show's upcoming Kritzerland Records' CD Cast recording, will be on hand opening weekend for a private Meet & Greet with fans who have donated to the production. The show is created and directed by prolific Bruce Kimmel, surely no stranger to LA theatre.

Playwright Wendy Graf (No Word In Guyanese for Me) explores the journey of an 'all American girl' (Annika Marksand Jeanne Syquia, alternating) as she develops from innocent youth to radicalized extremist. Anita Khanzadian directs the world premiere of All American Girl for InterACT Theatre Company, which opened July 3 at the Lounge Theatre in Hollywood.

'Like Drowning' takes place in an upper East Side Manhattan apartment, switching back and forth in time from the early 1990s to present day. The earlier scenes explore the relationship of Richard, a handsome, irresponsible actor in his 40s, and Rodney, a slightly older, attentive, well-off member of a theater's Board of Directors. In the present-day scenes, some 25 years later, an older version of Rodney brings an older version of Richard to his apartment to care for him as he faces his greatest personal challenge.
