Atlantic Theater Company has announced that the revival of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill's musical THE THREEPENNY OPERA has been extended an additional week, having sold out its first four weeks of preview performances. Directed and choreographed by Martha Clarke, the production opens Monday, April 7 and will now play through Sunday, May 11, 2014 off-Broadway at Atlantic Theater Company's main stage Linda Gross Theater (336 West 20th Street).

Last night Atlantic Theater Company presented their annual Gala at The Pierre (2 East 61st Street). Directed by Neil Pepe with musical direction by Matt Gallagher, Writers' Choice saluted Atlantic's iconic playwrights with an evening of unexpected songs. For this year's Gala, Atlantic asked alumni playwrights to choose a favorite song and a favorite musician to perform it. Writers' Choice featured special tributes to Annie Baker, Martha Clarke, Stephen Adly Guirgis, David Mamet, Conor McPherson, and Doug Wright from presenters and performers Jonathan Cake, Bridget Everett, John Gallagher Jr., Rick Holmes, Brian D'Arcy James, Gary Jules, John Kelly, Zosia Mamet, Julianne Nicholson, Laura Osnes, Michael Park, Mary Beth Peil and Isiah Whitlock, Jr. among others. Peter and the Starcatcher sets sail today and will play its final performance at New World Stages today, Sunday, January 12, 2014, after almost two years, five Tony Awards, and 645 performances (both on Broadway and at New World Stages). Written by Tony Award nominee Rick Elice and directed by Tony Award-winner Roger Rees and Tony Award-nominee Alex Timbers, Peter and the Starcatcher opened on Broadway on April 15, 2012 and ran until January 20, 2013, before beginning performances at New World Stages (340 West 50th St.) on Monday, March 18, 2013.

The 25th anniversary celebration of GYPSY OF THE YEAR, the culmination of six weeks of extraordinary fundraising by 56 participating Broadway, Off-Broadway, and national touring companies, raised an amazing $4,343,234 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The grand total was announced Tuesday, December 10, at this year's GYPSY OF THE YEAR, which included an array of original dances, songs, and skits performed by more than 250 'gypsies,' the most talented singers and dancers in the ensembles of Broadway and Off-Broadway shows.

The 25th anniversary edition of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS' Gypsy of the Year Competition will be presented Monday, December 9 (4:30 PM) and Tuesday, December 10 (2 PM) at the Minskoff Theatre (1515 Broadway). The show will feature performances by New York's best actors, singers, dancers, and musicians with several guest appearances, including Tyne Daly, Cherry Jones, Ian McKellen, Mark Rylance, and Patrick Stewart.
Third time's a charm! The producers of the audience and critics' favorite Peter and the Starcatcher announced today that Steve Rosen, who stepped in to play the role of Black Stache for certain performances during the show's Off-Broadway run at NYTW, again stepped into the show as Smee this past summer, will be joining once again as Smee tonight, November 11, to finish the run of the show with the rest of the cast. Peter and the Starcatcher will play its final performance at New World Stages on Sunday, January 12, 2014.
The producers of Peter and the Starcatcher have announced a partnership with The Sean Kimberling Testicular Cancer Foundation, to celebrate Movember, the global charity that raises funds and awareness to combat prostate cancer and mental health challenges. Movember, which invites men to join the movement by growing a moustache for the 30-days of November, is a charity movement especially close to the heart of Peter and the Starcatcher's own mustachioed pirate, Black Stache, who rightly claims "the 'stache is on everyone's lips…."
