Today in 2004, Thoroughly Modern Millie closed at the Marquis Theatre, where it ran for 903 performances. Thoroughly Modern Millie is a musical with music by Jeanine Tesori, lyrics by Dick Scanlan, and a book by Richard Morris and Scanlan. Based on the 1967 film of the same name, it tells the story of a small-town girl, Millie Dillmount, who comes to New York City to marry for money instead of love - a thoroughly modern aim in 1922, when women were just entering the workforce. The production subsequently won six 2002 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Actress in a Musical for Sutton Foster.

Thoroughly Modern Millie, the high-spirited musical romp that has everyone dancing the Charleston, will play host to the Girl Scouts of Cuyahoga County on Wednesday, June 25 at 7:30 pm. The musical, with Book by Dick Scanlan and Richard Morris, and new music by Jeanine Tesori, and based on the Julie Andrews movie of the same name, is the perfect theatre outing for a young performer, theatre newbie, and anyone who could use an honest-to-gooness laugh (or two).

Morrison H. Heckscher to Retire and Become Curator Emeritus at Metropolitan Museum and Sylvia L. Yount Appointed to Head American Wing

Thomas P. Campbell, Director and CEO of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, announced today that preeminent American art scholar Morrison H. Heckscher will retire on June 30, following 13 years as Lawrence A. Fleischman Chairman of The American Wing and a distinguished curatorial career at the Museum that spanned nearly five decades. He will become Curator Emeritus of The American Wing on July 1.

Kathleen Marshall to Direct New Version of THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN at Denver Center in 2014-15

A new adaptation of Meredith Willson's classic musical THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN will kick off the Denver Center Theatre Company's 2014/15 season, according to Producing Artistic Director Kent Thompson. Three-time Tony Award nominee Dick Scanlan combines his spirited new book with never before heard songs from the catalogue of Willson, who is also creator of the beloved The Music Man. The production will be helmed by three-time Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall as director and choreographer.

Long Beach Opera's new double bill explores creative minds on the border between genius and madness. Former rocker Stewart Copeland delves into the twisted psyche of Edgar Allan Poe's manic murderer in the US premiere of Tell-Tale Heart and Bang on a Can composer, Michael Gordon, observes the anguished spirit of a brilliant artist in the West Coast stage premiere of Van Gogh. Featuring music at the edge of rock, jazz and classical modernism, this double bill of delusion and illusion, paranoia and inspiration begins tonight, May 11 and continues on May 18 and 19, 2013 at theEXPO Art Center, 4321 Atlantic Avenue, Long Beach, CA.

SMTC has announced their next production, the tap dancing musical sensation Thoroughly Modern Millie. Performances will take place at the intimate 300-seat Dorrance Auditorium on the beautiful campus at Phoenix Country Day School in Paradise Valley. All SMTC shows feature the best local talent in the valley and a live orchestra.

Laurie Veldheer Stars in Paper Mill Playhouse's THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, Beg. Tonight

Paper Mill Playhouse presents Thoroughly Modern Millie, winner of the 2002 Drama Desk and Tony Award for Best Musical. This effervescent musical romp will feature Ashley Kate Adams (Miss Dorothy Brown), Brenda Braxton (Muzzy Van Hossmere), Billy Bustamante (Bun Foo), Jeff Kready (Jimmy Smith), Burke Moses (Mr. Trevor Graydon), Lenora Nemetz (Mrs. Meers), James Seol (Ching Ho), Jessica Sheridan (Miss Flannery) and Laurie Veldheer (Millie Dillmount). Thoroughly Modern Millie will be directed by Paper Mill Playhouse Producing Artistic Director Mark S. Hoebee with choreography by Denis Jones. Thoroughly Modern Millie will run at the Millburn, New Jersey, theater from tonight, April 10 through May 5, 2013. The official press opening is Sunday, April 14, at 7:00pm.
