Artist Danh Vo Wins Hugo Boss Prize 2012

The Hugo Boss Prize 2012 has been awarded to Danh Vo, announced Richard Armstrong, Director, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Foundation, and Claus-Dietrich Lahrs, Chairman and CEO, HUGO BOSS AG. Vo is the ninth artist to receive the biennial honor that was established in 1996 to recognize significant achievement in contemporary art. The prize carries an award of $100,000 and is administered by the Guggenheim Foundation. An exhibition of Vo's work will be on view at the Guggenheim Museum in spring 2013.

Guggenheim's The American Avant-Garde 1945–1980 Goes On View In Italy

From February 7 through May 6, 2012, the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome, Italy, will present Guggenheim Collection: The American Avant-Garde 1945-1980, an exhibition of some 60 iconic works from the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation's permanent collection.

Guggenheim Appoints WEISS as Curator, Panza Collection

Richard Armstrong, Director, Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and Museum, announced the appointment of Jeffrey Weiss to the newly established position of Curator, Panza Collection. The creation of the position is part of the Panza Collection Conservation Initiative (PCCI), which was announced last month along with a major grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation of $1.23 million to support the first phase of this project. This phase will undertake a comprehensive evaluation of the Minimalist, Post-Minimalist, and Conceptual artworks, from the 1960s through the 1970s, in the Guggenheim's Panza Collection.

Guggenheim Exhibition Celebrates Late Painter Kenneth Noland

In honor of the late Kenneth Noland (b. April 10, 1924, Asheville, N.C.; d. January 5, 2010, Port Clyde, Maine), the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum presents Kenneth Noland, 1924-2010: A Tribute, on view in the level 4 Thannhauser Gallery from May 21 to June 20. One of the great American abstract painters of the second half of the twentieth century, Noland had his first major retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum in 1977.
