Teatro Vista Announces 2013-14 Season

Teatro Vista, Chicago's largest non-profit Equity Latino theater company, announced today the initial line-up for its 2013-14 season, the company's first as a participant in Victory Gardens Theater's new Resident Theater Program.

Will Pork Productions and Believe Limited are happy to announce that Ryan Gielen's Turtle Hill, Brooklyn will open theatrically in New York City today, May 3rd. The film will run an exclusive week-long engagement at Quad Cinema in Manhattan.

Gerald Cohen & Deborah Brevoort's Opera STEAL A PENCIL FOR ME Premieres in NYC Tonight

Based on the book of the same title by Jaap Polak and Ina Soep Polak, STEAL A PENCIL FOR ME, a new opera with music by Gerald Cohen and libretto by Deborah Brevoort, will have its premiere in Scarsdale and New York City, NY in late April, 2013. STEAL A PENCIL FOR ME is a love story set in two concentration camps during World War II. It is based on the true story of Jaap and Ina Polak, whom the composer has known for the last 25 years, and who just celebrated their 100th and 90th birthdays.

Crossroads Theatre Company Presents WHITE LILIES, 5/11

Crossroads Theatre Company (Marshall Jones, III, producing artistic director), one of the nation's premiere African-American theaters, will present the world premieres of two one-act plays as its Season Finale this May: the powerful drama White Lilies, by best-selling novelist Walter Mosley, and the adult comedy The Talk, by France-Luce Benson. Previews begin on Thursday, May 9, and Friday, May 10; the plays open on Saturday, May 11, and run through Sunday, May 19, at Crossroads in New Brunswick.

Carole Frechette's THINKING OF YU tells the story of Maggie (Danielle Desormeaux), a woman who becomes fixated on a small newspaper article about Yu Dongyue, a Chinese journalist just released from prison after serving 17 years for throwing paint on a portrait of Chairman Mao during the 1989 student riots in Tiananmen Square. He is now mentally disabled, having suffered repeated beatings over almost two decades.
