Pan American Musical Art Research (PAMAR), founded and directed by Polly Ferman (and this year celebrating its 30th Anniversary!) has announced the 8th annual Latin American Cultural Week, a sumptuous list of events showing the rich culture of Latin America, with music, dance and theater performances, films, visual arts, and auctions, November 15-24 all around town, including Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall and the Apollo Theater in NYC, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Queens Theater, with a couple of trips to the Ritz Theater in Elizabeth NJ and Symphony Hall in Newark NJ.

The tour of the smash hit Broadway revival of WEST SIDE STORY is coming to Memphis. WEST SIDE STORY will open at the The Orpheum Theatre on Tuesday, November 5. Tony Award-winning librettist Arthur Laurents' Broadway direction is recreated for the tour by David Saint,the Associate Director on Broadway. The original Jerome Robbins choreography is reproduced by Tony Award-nominee Joey McKneely (The Boy from Oz, The Life).

Five finalists have been named in Pride Films and Plays' Great Gay Screenplay Contest, an international contest for screenplays with LGBT characters and themes. The finalists include a wide range of subject matter ranging from a love triangle set in France, a mystical teenage romance laced with racial tension, a set of non-actors facing possible Hollywood stardom, a sweet coming-of-age tale, and an older man's revelation of painful secrets.

The Twin Cities theater community bestowed on Jeffrey Hatcher, nationally-renowned playwright, the Lifetime Achievement Award, and performer, director and playwright Ricardo Vasquez the Emerging Artist Award at the 9th annual Ivey Awards. The celebration, held Monday, September 23, at the Historic State Theatre in downtown Minneapolis, honors and showcases the work of professional theater companies and artists over the past year.
In this humorous allegory for the AIDS crisis in the 1980s, Anna, an unmarried schoolteacher, is diagnosed with ATD (Acquired Toilet Disease). It's fatal and mysterious, so she and her brother Carl take off for a dream tour of Europe before the inevitable happens. As Anna drowns herself in the sensuality of food and sex, Carl becomes involved in a wild Third Mannish espionage scheme to find a cure for his sister. But the cracks in the story start to widen and soon the audience becomes aware that they are engaged in Anna's fantasy attempt at keeping her brother's spirit alive when she can not save his life.
