The Joyce Theater Foundation (Linda Shelton, Executive Director) is pleased to present the return of The Sarasota Ballet, following its highly successful, critically acclaimed 2016 Joyce debut, from August 14-19, 2018. Under the Artistic Direction of Iain Webb, The Sarasota Ballet will present two programs featuring works by Tony Award-winner Christopher Wheeldon, Sarasota Ballet Resident Choreographer and Principal dancer Ricardo Graziano. and Sir Frederick Ashton, whose work the company has become renowned for executing with such skill and strength. Indeed, one of the programs has been designed to celebrate Ashton, commemorating the 30th anniversary of his death, and will include a guest performance by Marcelo Gomes.
Five of Mexico's top chefs are coming together for The Best of Mexico´s Culinary Traditions Riviera Maya at Grand Velas Riviera Maya from October 10th to 14th. Focusing on traditional Mexican flavors, cooking techniques and ingredients, the culinary event features a seven-course dinner, paired with beer and mezcal. Featured chefs in-clude Reyna Mendoza, an authority on traditional food from Oaxaca; Ricardo Muñoz Zurita, considered an authority on Mexican cuisine having authored an encyclopedia on the topic; David Cetina, renowned for Yucatecan food; Joel Ornelas, known for contemporary presentations of traditional dishes; and Pablo Salas, whose restaurant in To-luca has been named among the Top 50 Restaurants in Latin America. The chefs will team up with chefs Humberto May Tamay and Laura Avalos of Grand Velas' Mayan restaurant, Chaka. Oliver, a malnourished orphan in a workhouse in Victorian, England, becomes the neglected apprentice of an undertaker. Peters's delightfully wicked opera, Companionship. Adapted from the short story by internationally bestselling author Arthur Phillips, this delicious dark comedy about an obsession with dough, mirrors our modern world, where what we consume becomes all-consuming. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has reported that Ricardo Tobia, best known in the original Broadway cast of Pacific Overtures, was found dead on Tuesday, July 10. Tobia and his dog, Sparky, were both brutally murdered in Pittsburgh.
