LOUIS & KEELY: LIVE AT THE SAHARA Extends Run At The Geffen Playhouse Thru 5/24

Similar to their namesake act that swept the strip in Vegas decades ago, Louis & Keely: Live at the Sahara is quickly becoming the hottest ticket in town. As such, the play, which was originally set to close on the last week of April, will now be extended for an additional four weeks. After lauded reviews from local media and a near sweep at the 2009 Garland Awards (production, playwriting, direction/musical direction, best actor/actress in a musical), Louis and Keely Live at the Sahara has added 24 performances after nearly selling out its previously announced run. The musical, which follows the life and love of Las Vegas? infamous onstage couple Louis Prima and Keely Smith, will run at the Audrey Skriball Kenis Theater at the Geffen Playhouse through May 24.

Noth & Pine Head 'FARRAGUT NORTH' at Geffen Beginning 6/18

The Geffen Playhouse is postponing the previously announced production of Nightmare Alley, set to occupy the final slot in the theater's 08/09 season, and replacing it with Beau Willimon's acclaimed new political play Farragut North.

Mahoney, Irwin & Connolly Lead Geffen's THE SEAFARER Beginning 4/14

The Geffen Playhouse welcomes back celebrated stage and screen actor John Mahoney (Frasier) for his second role in a Conor McPherson play at the Geffen Playhouse. After starring in the 2001 production of The Weir, Mahoney returns to play the role of Richard Harkin in The Seafarer, McPherson's 2008 Tony nominee for Best Play, which opens April 22 on the Geffen's main stage. Helmed by Geffen Playhouse Artistic Director Randall Arney, the ensemble cast also features seasoned actors Andrew Connolly, Tom Irwin, Paul Vincent O'Connor and Matt Roth.

Steppenwolf's THE SEAFARER Extends Two Additional Weeks Thru 2/22

Due to popular demand, Steppenwolf Theatre Company is adding two additional weeks of performances to its critically-acclaimed production of The Seafarer, by Conor McPherson, directed by ensemble member Randall Arney. A new block of tickets for performances February 9 - 22, 2009 will go on sale Friday, January 2 at 11:00 a.m.

Silverstone and Thomas Star in TIME STANDS STILL at Geffen 2/3

The lure of a world premiere play by Pulitzer winner Donald Margulies (Dinner with Friends) directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan (Proof) is enticing enough to convince actors Anna Gunn (HBO's Deadwood, AMC's Breaking Bad), Alicia Silverstone (Clueless, Miss Match), David Harbour (Quantum of Solace, Revolutionary Road, State of Play) and Robin Thomas (Damages, Murphy Brown) to temporarily forgo the screens for a stint at the Geffen Playhouse. The second produced work in the Geffen's ongoing commission program, Time Stands Still opens February 11, 2009 on the theater's main stage.

In this eerie, darkly humorous tale, celebrated playwright Conor McPherson examines how we face the demons of our past as we struggle to find redemption. The Seafarer is the second of two plays by Conor McPherson premiering in Chicago at Steppenwolf this season. McPherson's Dublin Carol played November 6, 2008 ? January 4, 2009 in Steppenwolf's Upstairs Theatre. The Seafarer makes its Chicago premiere following a critically-acclaimed Broadway run.

Bichir and Cochran to Star in Geffen's 'By the Waters of Babylon' by Schenkkan

The Los Angeles premiere of Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Schenkkan's By the Waters of Babylon brings two award-winning, long-time theater actors to the Geffen stage for the first time: Demián Bichir and Shannon Cochran. Bichir, who is currently starring as Mary Louise-Parker's love interest on Showtime's Weeds, will play the role of Arturo, a Cuban immigrant who is hired to (coincidentally) weed the garden of unconventional Austin widow Catherine. Cochran, who will star as Catherine, is straight from Chicago where she starred in sold out performances of The Lion in Winter at the Writers Theatre.
