The 11th annual New Stages Festival kicked off at Goodman Theatre on October 29. Appearing in repertory alongside Feathers and Teeth is THE MAGIC PLAY by Andrew Hinderaker, a play that fuses magic and reality directed by Halena Kays; and Carlyle by Thomas Bradshaw, an exploration of right-wing politics in America through the eyes of an African American Republican directed by Benjamin Kamine. Theater For The New City will present the world premiere of Christy-Smith Sloman's provocative new play Negative is Positive. This contemporary dramedy center's on a newly married interacial, upwardly mobile couple who's seemingly idyllic life is shattered by a shocking incident. Along with another couple, the unexpected incident forces them to explore issues of trust, failed expectations, jealousy, race and the true nature of their love. This production is also the New York stage debut of Sean Avery, former NHL star, New York Ranger and LGBT advocate. The cast also features Karen Eilbacher, Joshua Zirger, Vivienne Jurado and Fulton Hodges. Opening night is November 6th at 8pm.

The Fox Theatre is presenting One Drop of Love on Sunday, September 21 at 3 PM and 7 PM in the Fox Theatre's Egyptian Ballroom. The show is a multimedia solo performance exploring family, race, love, pain and a path towards reconciliation. Monica Pearson, an active community leader and influencer, will moderate the discussion following both shows.

Ensemble Studio Theatre/LA has announced the world premiere of Land Line, a new play by Stephen Dierkes, directed by William Charlton, and featuring Katherine Cortez, John Dennis Johnston, Gary Patent, and Peter James Smith. Land Line is set to open Today, June 14 at 8pm and the limited engagement will run through July 21.
