Moving Image Present Alain Resnais Retrospective

Alain Resnais (b. 1922), the French New Wave director whose distinctive films explore themes of time, memory, history, and desire, will be the subject of a major retrospective at Museum of the Moving Image from February 25 through March 20, 2011.

MSG Network Leads New York Emmy Award Nominations

MSG Network received a whopping 60 nominations Thursday for the 54th Annual New York Emmy Awards. Among the other regional sports networks, the YES Network notched 46 nominations, while MSG Varsity picked up 32 nods. SNY was recognized 23 times.

OpenStage Theatre Presents A PICASSO, 2/18-3/20

OpenStage Theatre's upcoming production of A PICASSO by Jeffrey Hatcher beings February 18 to March 20. The year is 1941. In the midst of the German occupation of France, Spanish expatriate Pablo Picasso is brought to a vault below the streets of Paris to identify three works of art the Nazis have recently 'acquired.' He is met by an enigmatic young German cultural attaché, Miss Fischer, who quickly becomes engaged in a deceptively simple duel of wits with the stubborn, inspired and arrogant Picasso.

The exhibition Picasso: Guitars 1912-1914 takes as its point of departure two works given to The Museum of Modern Art by Pablo Picasso in the early 1970s: Guitar, assembled from cardboard, paper, wire, glue, and string in 1912, and a second version made of sheet metal in 1914.

International City Theatre kicks off its 2011 'Season of Romantic Adventures' with the West Coast premiere of a musical abouT Loving life, loving thinking, loving making art, and loving love. Loving Repeating: A Musical of Gertrude Stein, adapted from Stein's writings by Tony Award winners Stephen Flaherty and Frank Galati, explores the writer's capricious love affair with language, self expression, and her lifelong companion, Alice B. Toklas. caryn desai [sic] directs and Darryl Archibald is musical director. The limited, four-week engagement closes Februay 13.
