Last night, on June 13, the 2010 Tony Awards honored the best of Broadway in the 2009-2010 season. MEMPHIS was the big winner of the night in the musical category, earning honors for Best Musical, Best Book, Best Score, and Best Orchestrations. The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts presents the Geffen Playhouse production of THURGOOD in the Eisenhower Theater June 1 to June 20, 2010. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle attended THURGOOD at the Kennedy Center tonight. The first couple took in the sold-out performance from the President's box of the theatre.

As BroadwayWorld has previously reported, Alec Baldwin is starring as the psychiatrist Martin Dysart in Peter Shaffer's Equus this summer at Guild Hall in East Hampton, N.Y. The production, which co-stars Sam Underwood and is directed by Tony Walton will run from June 8 - July 13 at the John Drew Theater at Guild Hall. This will be Baldwin's first production at Guild Hall, of which he is a board member.
As previously reported by BroadwayWorld, the Manhattan Theatre Club will present a reading of the new musical STUNT GIRL (book and lyrics by Peter Kellogg, music by David Friedman) as part of their Ernst C. Stiefel '7@7' reading series. The Village Theatre of Issaquah, Washington, where STUNT GIRL was first presented in 2005, has now reported that Brian Yorkey, bookwriter and lyricist of NEXT TO NORMAL and former artistic director of the Village Theatre, will direct the reading.

The Walt Disney company will be releasing a new hand-drawn 'Winnie the Pooh' animated movie on July 15, 2011, jimhillmedia.com has reported. The movie will be called 'Winnie the Pooh' and will feature songs by Robert Lopez, who collaborated on the score for AVENUE Q, and Kristen Anderson-Lopez. The story will be based on five stories from the original Winnie the Pooh books by A.A. Milne.
