The downtown Theatre District is filled with activity surrounding Billy Elliot in the coming weeks with rehearsals that began January 11 in Chicago and the production moving into the Ford Center/Oriental Theatre.

David Alvarez, Trent Kowalik and Kiril Kulish, Tony winners for their performance as Billy in the smash hit musical Billy Elliot the Musical, will be reunited to support TrueChild in their Celebrity Cook-Off event on Monday, May 3rd.

The critically acclaimed, internationally award-winning musical opened at the Victoria Palace Theatre in 2005 and has subsequently been seen by over 4.5 million people worldwide. As well as the current London production, Billy Elliot the Musical has performed in Sydney and Melbourne, is currently performing at the Imperial Theater on Broadway and from 18 March will begin previews at the Oriental Theatre, Chicago, with further productions due to open in Korea in August 2010, Toronto in February 2011 and Japan in 2011. In addition a North American tour is slated to begin in November 2010 and productions are in the works for Germany and Holland.

London's Young Vic Theatre will revive Martin McDonagh's first play, THE BEAUTY QUEEN OF LEENAN, which will run from July 15 through August 21.

According to the New York Times, the hit Broadway musical Billy Elliot will be making its way to South Korea by Auguust 2010. The producers of 'Billy Elliot the Musical' said that a Korean-language version of the show, will play in Seoul. Years in the making, the South Korean production includes a cast of local actors including four young Billys.

BILLY ELLIOT, currently playing at the Imperial Theatre on Broadway, dedicated the February 24th performance to The Actors Fund, granting proceeds to the fund in support of their programs and services. Michael Dameski and Jake Schwencke took the stage for the benefit.
