'A Hard Rain' by Jon Bradfield and Martin Hooper is set in 1969 Greenwich Village in the sweltering few days before the Stonewall riots. A drag queen and former soldier named Ruby, veteran of ten months' fighting in Vietnam, rocks up in Greenwich Village in high heels and a rage. In a Mafia-run bar greased with smart-talking queers, bribe-happy cops and nervous Wall Street high-flyers, she meets a street kid and will change his world, and ours. The piece debuted in February-March, 2014 at Above the Stag Theatre in London. Theater for the New City will present the play's American premiere, directed by Michael Luggio, January 6 to 25, 2015.

The Steppenwolf Theatre Company Ensemble has announced its newest member, playwright Bruce Norris. Among his many accomplishments, Norris is the author of The Qualms, playing July 3 - August 31 in Steppenwolf's Downstairs Theatre. Since 2000, Steppenwolf has produced seven of Norris's plays, including Clybourne Park and the world premieres of A Parallelogram, The Unmentionables, The Pain and the Itch, We All Went Down to Amsterdam, Purple Heart and The Infidel.

For the second production in Theatre for a New Audience's inaugural season at its first permanent home, the new Polonsky Shakespeare Center, 262 Ashland Place in Brooklyn, Mr. Pennington leads a company of 22 actors. King Lear begins previews March 14 for an opening March 27 and a run through May 4.
