STG Presents to Reopen Neptune Theatre

Seattle Theatre Group (STG), the non-profit arts organization that owns and operates The Paramount Theatre and leases The Moore Theatre, announces today that keys are in hand and work to transform The Neptune Theatre will begin soon. 'We want you to be aware that although the doors aren't open yet, you'll start seeing announcements for shows and events to be held at The Neptune Theatre. We're using the spring and summer months to test the venue - tweaking and making minor changes as we go along,' said Josh LaBelle, STG Executive Director. 'This soft opening is to set the stage for our Grand Launch, scheduled for Fall 2011.' STG has a history of bringing a variety of diverse and innovative shows to its theatres. The vision for The Neptune Theatre is to continue this tradition of presenting fresh, new, local, national and international performing arts programs. Programming to include: Concerts representing a broad spectrum of musical genres Independent film Comedy and speakers Fine arts performance Education and community programs Free public events Built in 1921, The Neptune Theatre is the only survivor of five original University District movie houses from the silent film era. STG will reconfigure the room to present diverse performing arts while preserving the historic venue and increasing the options for the community to engage in the arts. STG needs to raise $400,000 to support the transformation of The Neptune Theatre. Those funds are to support the following projects: Preserve architecture and restore cosmetic detail. Install motorized movie screen. Reveal original stage and proscenium. Upgrade backstage area. Install state of the art sound and lights. Install safety sprinkler system. Improve patron amenities: seating, beverage service and restroom upgrades. 'Now is the perfect time to donate to STG and help transform The Neptune Theatre,' said Kate Becker, STG Director of Development. 'A very generous supporter has brought forward a $30,000 challenge award towards the fundraising campaign. This donor will match every dollar donated by the community, up to $30,000. Six-time Emmy Award nominee Jeffrey Tambor ('Arrested Development,' 'The Larry Sanders Show') will make his Broadway musical debut as Georges opposite four-time Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein as Albin in the Tony Award-winning revival of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES. Tambor and Fierstein will begin performances on Tuesday, February 15 at the Longacre Theatre (220 West 48th Street). Five-time Emmy Award winner Kelsey Grammer and 2010 Tony Award winner Douglas Hodge, the current stars of LA CAGE, will play their final performance on Sunday, February 13.
