The Souls Grown Deep Foundation Donates Works to Metropolitan Museum of Art

Thomas P. Campbell, Director and CEO of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, announced today that 57 works by contemporary African American artists from the Southern United States have been donated to the Museum by the Souls Grown Deep Foundation from its William S. Arnett Collection. In addition to paintings, drawings, and mixed media works by acclaimed artists such as Thornton Dial, Lonnie Holley, and Nellie Mae Rowe, the major gift includes 20 important quilts dating from the 1930s to 2003 that were created by women artists based in the area around Gee's Bend, Alabama.

The Met Museum Opens TREASURES FROM INDIA: JEWELS FROM THE AL-THANI COLLECTION Today

Thomas P. Campbell, Director and CEO of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, previously announced that an exhibition of some 60 jeweled objects from the private collection formed by Sheikh Hamad bin Abdullah Al-Thani will be presented at the Museum this fall. Treasures from India: Jewels from the Al-Thani Collection, on view today, October 28 through January 25, will provide a glimpse into the evolving styles of the jeweled arts in India from the Mughal period until the early 20th century, with emphasis on later exchanges with the West. The exhibition will be shown within the Metropolitan Museum's Islamic art galleries, adjacent to the Museum's own collection of Mughal-period art.

Heckscher will retire on June 30, following 13 years as Lawrence A. Fleischman Chairman of The American Wing and a distinguished curatorial career at the Museum that spanned nearly five decades. He will become Curator Emeritus of The American Wing on July 1.

Uris Center for Education at The Metropolitan Museum of Art through P.S. Art, a project of the New York City Department of Education and Studio in a School Association, Inc. The annual juried exhibition is now in its 12th year. P.S. Art 2014: Celebrating the Creative Spirit of NYC Kids will open for special viewing by the public at 6:30 p.m. tonight, June 10, the evening of the City's annual Museum Mile Festival, and will remain on view through August 25.

Adrienne Arsht Pledges $1 Million in Support of the MET MUSEUM PRESENTS Series

Cellist Jay Campbell to Perform at Columbia University's Italian Academy, 5/7

Columbia University's Italian Academy for Advanced Studies presents the adventurous young cellist Jay Campbell, First Prize Winner of the 2012 Concert Artists Guild (CAG) Victor Elmaleh Competition, on its Spring 2014 concert series Wednesday evening, May 7th at 7:00 p.m. in the Teatro of the Italian Academy, 1161 Amsterdam Ave., New York, NY. The Metropolitan Museum of Art Presents the GLOBAL MUSEUM LEADERS COLLOQUIUM, 4/7-18

Brodsky, an art historian and specialist in Latin American art, have provided a generous gift to endow two important curatorships in the Department of Modern and Contemporary Art. This expansion of curatorial staff provides major support for the department's broadened programming in both the main building and the Marcel Breuer-designed building on Madison Avenue that will be vacated by the Whitney Museum in 2015 and subsequently occupied by the Met.

Concert Artists Guild presents the adventurous young cellist Jay Campbell, First Prize Winner of the 2012 CAG Victor Elmaleh Competition, on its Concerts in New York series on Monday evening, March 10th at 7:30 p.m. at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. Together with pianist Conor Hanick, Jay offers a program that reflects his dedication to new music, presented within an historical framework.
