(New York, October 15, 2015)-Thomas P. Campbell, Director and CEO of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, announced today that British artist Cornelia Parker has been selected to create a site-specific installation atop the Met's Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden. The installation will be on view from May through October 2016, and will be the fourth in a series of site-specific commissions for the outdoor space.

Campbell, Director and CEO of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, announced today that a record 6.3 million people—from the five boroughs of New York City, the local tri-state area, across the United States, and around the world—visited the Museum during the fiscal year that ended on June 30 (FY15). This is the highest visitorship since the Met began tracking admission statistics more than 40 years ago, and it is the fourth year in a row that attendance exceeded six million. The total includes visitors both at the main building on Fifth Avenue and at The Cloisters museum and gardens, the branch of the Metropolitan Museum in upper Manhattan devoted to the art and architecture of the Middle Ages.

These transformative gifts include nearly 1,300 Asian works of art from Florence and Herbert Irving; more than 300 Japanese and Korean masterworks and a $12.5 million endowment to fund Japanese art initiatives from the collection of Mary Griggs Burke; $15 million from Oscar L. Thomas P. Campbell, Director and CEO of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, announced today that David Chipperfield Architects (DCA) has been selected to develop a new design for the Southwest Wing for modern and contemporary art, and potentially for adjacent galleries for the Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas, as well as additional operational spaces. The announcement followed a year-long research and selection process led by a committee of the Museum's Board of Trustees. The committee's recommendation was approved by a vote of the full Board on March 10.

Goldner, who has been the Drue Heinz Chairman of the Museum's Department of Drawings and Prints since 1993, will step down at the end of January 2015. He announced further that Nadine Orenstein, currently a Curator in the department who specializes in European prints and books through the 19th century, will become the Drue Heinz Curator in Charge of the Department of Drawings and Prints on February 1.
