Brooklyn Music Venue National Sawdust Releases Complete Lineup for Inaugural Season

Composer Paola Prestini, the Creative and Executive Director of National Sawdust (NS), today announced programming for the non-profit's inaugural fall season in its new home-a $16 million, 13,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art chamber hall in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The performance and recording venue, designed by Brooklyn-based architecture firm Bureau V in the shell of century-old former sawdust factory, will provide composers and musicians a setting in which they can flourish, and a place where they are given commissioning support, mentoring and other critical resources essential to create, and then share, their work. For audiences-serious fans and casual listeners alike-the venue will be a place to discover genre-spanning music at accessible ticket prices.

The Royal Shakespeare Company's acclaimed production of Shakespeare's THE MERCHANT OF VENICE will play in select movie houses across North America, beginning August 19. The production, which opened to rave reviews at the RSC's home in Stratford-upon-Avon, was filmed for 'Live from Stratford-upon-Avon,' the RSC program that screens the world's greatest classical theatre company from Shakespeare's home town around the world through a continued partnership with Picturehouse Entertainment.

World Music Institute's LUSOPHONE FESTIVAL to Open 9/15 with Os Mutantes

World Music Institute opens its spectacular 30th Anniversary Season with a four-night cross-cultural Lusophone Festival, featuring music from the Portuguese-speaking world with artists from Brazil, Portugal, Cape Verde, Angola, and Mozambique. From September 15-18, back-to-back concerts take place at venues around town including Le Poisson Rouge, Drom NYC, and The Town Hall.
