Living in Connecticut eight years ago when a chimp being kept as a pet ripped the face off a neighbor, I found it tough to see anything but stark horror in the attack.

How would you feel if the person closest to you, someone with whom you interact daily, whom you care for and who cares for you, didn't understand a word you were saying and vice versa? This communication challenge is the point on which balances the story of 200-pound chimpanzee, Trevor and his owner, Sandra. As a one-time commercial and television star alongside the likes of Morgan Fairchild, Trevor is desperate to prove his relevance in a world that has moved on now that he is no longer the adorable baby monkey of his youth. His owner Sandra swears he is still harmless and childlike, protecting herself from the realities of Trevor's dangers and the deep wounds of her own losses. Based on a true story, Trevor is a tale about how relationships, flaws, and excuses can tip-toe a delicate line between side-splitting humor and dangerous misunderstandings. Trevor and Sandra's relationship spins comically and dangerously out of control in this theatrical story by "Orange is the New Black" writer, Nick Jones. The Chicago Sun-Times hailed Trevor as a "hugely entertaining tragicomedy."

If there is a 'leading family' of Jacksonville theater, it may very well be the Booth family. Marking their first time ever on stage together, Tod Booth, Lisa Valdini Booth and Jessica Booth will team up for the Alhambra's production of the Neil Simon comedy, Come Blow Your Horn.

In the summer of 2009, local businessman Craig Smith took a huge gamble on Jacksonville's failing Alhambra Dinner Theatre, which had decided to close its doors after 42 years of production. The longest-running professional dinner theatre in the country had, for a number of reasons (not the least of which being the poor economy in the late 2000's) seen its subscription base drop from a peak of about 4,500 to 500 and struggle to fill even half the house at discounted prices.

For the last few years the uber talented Lythgoe family have been entertaining us at Christmastime, at the Pasadena Playhouse with a British style panto. A panto is an interactive entertainment that starts with a very contemporary retelling of a fairy tale such as Snow White, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, or in this case Cinderella and turns it into a fun imaginative show with music that will appeal to both children and their parents. There's usually an actor or two in drag, and a villain ... and audience are encouraged to root for the heroes and HISS loudly at the villains. It's all in amusement, of course, and this year's A Cinderella Christmas is all good fun with a superb cast, some fine pop singing and fast-paced dancing... and, first and foremost, a funfilled script by Kris Lythgoe. To pull the younger audience into the proceedings, crowns and magic wands are on sale. The kids wave their wands on high to encourage the union of Prince Charming (Kenton Duty) and Cinders, short for Cinderella (Lauren Taylor). The delightful family show plays at the Pasadena Playhouse throughout the holiday season until January 8.

Film and TV actress Morgan Fairchild needs no introduction. She has been working for the past 40+ years, always recognizable as the glamorous blonde vixen from such series as Flamingo Road, Paper Dolls and Falcon Crest, as well as the soap Search For Tomorrow. Now about ready to start rehearsals for the Lythgoe Family's Christmas Panto, called A Cinderella Christmas at the Pasadena Playhouse, bowing December 8, Fairchild took time out of her busy schedule to chat with us about the role she is playing and her career. Has she been happy or does she long to change her sexy image?

Looking back. Looking Forward. That is the theme for the year-long anniversary celebration at Alhambra Theatre & Dining, the nation's longest running professional dinner theater. In late July of 1967, there was but one table - on an empty lot on Beach Boulevard in Jacksonville, Florida, an unlikely spot 50 years ago for what would become an icon in the Jacksonville cultural landscape and within the national theater scene.

The Michigan premiere of Trevor by Nick Jones runs this month, October 14-16, 20-23, 2016 at Stagecrafters' 2nd Stage. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!

Stagecrafter's 2nd Stage Theatre presented the Michigan premiere of the dark comedy Trevor about a faded television actor relegated to a quiet, domestic life, but longing to return to his illustrious career. Only the actor this show is about is a chimpanzee, which inhibits the communication between his owner and himself. This production is a show filled with many emotions as the audience watches they will laugh, they will feel, and they will struggle right along with Trevor and his owner, Sandra.

It seems like every time a previously docile animal, like a pet dog or an animal at the zoo, does something unexpectedly awful (usually in the form of harming a person), we hear things like, 'I don't know what happened. He's never been aggressive before.' When it's a person who commits a terrible act of violence, we say they 'just snapped.' In any case, we generally have the idea that one day someone is fine and the next day they just lose it.
