TheatreWorks Silicon Valley continues its 2017/2018 season with the Bay Area premiere of the stunning musical tribute, Our Great Tchaikovsky, written and performed by Hershey Felder, who shattered box office records at TheatreWorks with his acclaimed portrayals of Irving Berlin and Beethoven. Exploring both current Russian politics and historical context, piano virtuoso Felder brings to life the music and story of composer Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in a time-bending tale. From the iconic ballets Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, and The Nutcracker, to the outrageous 1812 Overture and brilliant symphonic works, this powerful music journey travels from Czarist times to today, bringing vivid life to a haunted genius. Westport Country Playhouse will present a spring production of the acclaimed musical memoir, "The Pianist of Willesden Lane," starring Grammy-nominated pianist and storyteller Mona Golabek.
San Diego Repertory Theatre (San Diego REP) announced today that its box office records, previously set by another of Hershey Felder's works, 'The Pianist of Willesden Lane,' have been broken. The world premiere play with music, 'Our Great Tchaikovsky,' surpassed the record set in 2014 by Felder's adaptation of Mona Golabek's novel - with the current production breaking the record even before entering performances. The production has become the highest grossing show in San Diego REP history.
Following a critically acclaimed run earlier this year, Hershey Felder's The Pianist of Willesden Lane is playing again at the St. James Theatre for six weeks. To mark its return, a gala performance in aid of World Jewish Relief has taken place.
