The five-time Tony Award-winning "Peter and the Starcatcher" opens December 4, 2013, at the Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre at the Los Angeles Music Center (preview December 3). Austin Playhouse Presents AND THEN THERE WERE NONE, Now thru 12/22

Ten strangers, each with a dark secret, are summoned to the island mansion of an eccentric millionaire, but when the guests arrive their host is nowhere to be found. Lured away and isolated from everything but each other, the guests soon find they are haunted by more than just the shadows of their past. One by one the guests reveal their guilty secrets, and one by one...they begin to die. Who's the murderous culprit? And who will be next? An all-star cast brings this classic murder-mystery to life!

BWW Reviews: SHNSF's PETER AND THE STARCATCHER Enchants Now thru December 1

Swashbuckling adventure and hilarious hijinks await patrons of SHNSF's Curran Theatre with 5-time Tony Award winning Peter and the Star Catcher, which has sailed into San Francisco for a magical turn before returning to Neverland or other parts unknown. This clever prequel to J.M. Barrie's beloved Peter and Wendy is powered by starstuff (which figures prominently in the play) and a high-energy cast that is the tightest ensemble I've seen in a long time. Good, old-fashioned storytelling, reliance on late, 19th century stagecraft -- and two directors (Roger Rees and Alex Timbers) whose imaginations were allowed to run amok -- have created a wildly enjoyable and enchanting show. Playing now through December 1, Peter and the Star Catcher is one show you will definitely want to see.

BWW Reviews: DEAD PRESIDENT'S CLUB is Alive and Well in Austin

As a relative newbie to Austin, I have not seen The Dead President's Club until recently, but it's well known that Austin Playhouse's revivals of it are more frequent than political sex scandals. But while the later may induce eye-rolling and head-scratching, The Dead President's Club is met with uproarious laughter. Yes, the show gets revived frequently, but with popularity numbers that would greatly overpower any political candidate, it's easy to see why.

Austin Playhouse to Present THE DEAD PRESIDENTS' CLUB, Begin. 10/18

In this comic gem by the famed Texas playwright best known for The Night Hank Williams Died and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, four former presidents - Richard M. Nixon, Lyndon B. Johnson, Calvin Coolidge and Harry S. Truman- find themselves in an exclusive holding pen outside heaven awaiting the decision of an admissions committee. 'Just who is on that committee?' asks the recently arrived Nixon. 'That's the problem: a buncha narrow-minded damned saints!' Johnson replies. As the sanctified weigh the leaders' good deeds against their sins of omission and commission, 'Landslide Lyndon' and 'Tricky Dick' plot to get around the bureaucracy and go straight to the Boss.
