Award-winning songwriters will convene on Capitol Hill tomorrow, May 17, to meet with elected officials as part of the annual American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers' (ASCAP) 'Stand with Songwriters' Advocacy Day. They will ask senators to cosponsor the Music Modernization Act, the bipartisan music reform bill that passed unanimously in the U.S. House of Representatives on April 25 and was recently reintroduced in the Senate.
On Wednesday, May 16, The ASCAP Foundation and The Library of Congress will jointly present the 10th annual “We Write the Songs” event at the historic Coolidge Auditorium in The Library of Congress in Washington, DC. As a special TBT look back on Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival 2018, today the festival is revealing a highlights video from their star-studded annual PoWoW! set. PoWoW! is a once-in-a-lifetime superstar collaboration that brings top artists together for an ultimate jam session. This year saw hip-hop legends The Roots & Snoop Dogg leading the evening, performing with an array of special guests that spanned the genres of hip-hop, funk and soul. The Queen of Funk, Chaka Khan, took the stage and to perform a few of her classic hits. Comedy-magic duo Penn & Teller will close out the 2017-2018 Kauffman Center Presents season on June 22. Keyboardist David Garfield was nineteen when he got his start playing alongside influential bebop jazz trumpeterFreddie Hubbard. But opportunities came quickly for him in contemporary jazz as well as in R&B and pop, which guided the direction of his now five-decade career away from his roots. Straight-ahead jazz has remained in his core and he's longed to return “home” thus to launch his prolific multi-volume, multi-genre “Outside the Box” collection, Garfield will drop his first straight-ahead jazz album, “Jazz Outside the Box,” on March 23via his Creatchy Records label.
Master guitarist, producer, composer, musical director and arranger Terry Wollman has just released a new single, “No Problem,” already #1 most added onBillboard Smooth Jazz chart, SmoothJazz.com and Radio Wave Internet Airplay. The song, which he wrote, arranged and produced, features enviable musicians including Mindi Abair on alto sax, Greg Manning on keyboards, Hussain Jiffry on bass and John 'JR' Robinson on drums. “I absolutely love playing electric guitar. When I had the opportunity to go into the studio with these wonderful musicians, I knew this song was the perfect choice for a live recording session,” said Terry. He recorded the song, which he calls a “burning electric blues shuffle,” using his AC Plus, SP Compressor, EP Booster and Xotic Wah.
