Weeks of anxious waiting ended last night for local playwrights as the Acorn Productions announced the finalists of the 2014 Maine Playwrights Festival. The Festival, now entering it's 13th year, is an annual showcase of new work by Maine-based playwrights. Spanning two weekends in April and May, the Festival will feature the work of more than 17 local writers as well as dozens of actors, directors and crew.

The Maine Playwrights Festival (MPF), now entering it's 13th year, has announced the performance schedule for this year's event, which takes place at the St. Lawrence Arts Center in Portland. The 2014 MPF takes place between April 23 and May 4, and includes two schedules of short plays, a staged reading of a full-length play, the 24-Hour Theater Project, and a new event entitled "The Monologathon' featuring teams of actors and writers competing with new monologues before a panel of celebrity judges.

Mad Horse Theatre Company continues its new play reading series, BY LOCAL, with two new works by Maine playwrights: Sin Don't Enter Into It by Cullen McGough, and Ghosts of Ocean House by Michael Kimball. Sin Don't Enter Into It, directed by Christine Louise Marshall, will be performed today, February 6 and Saturday February 8 at 7:30 pm. Ghosts of Ocean House, directed by Kat Moraros, will be performed Friday 2/7, 7:30 pm and Sunday February 9 at 2:00 pm. The Mission Creek Festival has released the second announcement of artists performing at this year's festival. New acts scheduled to perform include supergroup Divine Fits, 30-piece punk marching band Mucca Pazza, rising metal group Pallbearer, and rock duo JEFF the Brotherhood. Other new additions are Mister Lies, Ital, Pete Swanson Future Rock, Pujol, Container, and Iowa-based artists Har-di-Har, Gloom Balloon, Mirror Coat, Ex-Action Model, No Coast, and Gem Jones.
