Midwest New Musicals Presents WANTING MISS JULIE at Light Opera Works, 11/19

Midwest New Musicals continues Words and Music, its concert reading series of original musicals, with WANTING MISS JULIE, book by John Sparks, lyrics by Patricia Zehentmayr and music by Jake Anthony, on Monday, November 19, at 7:30 PM at the Light Opera Works Second Stage at 1420 Maple (at Lake) in Evanston. Cellist Maya Beiser Performs ELSEWHERE at BAM Festival, Now thru 10/20

Cellist Maya Beiser will see the New York premiere of her new production, ELSEWHERE, a "CelloOpera," in four performances from tonight, October 17 through 20 at 7:30pm, during the 2012 BAM Next Wave Festival in the inaugural season of the Fishman Space, part of BAM's new Richard B. Fischer Building which opens in September 2012 at 321 Ashland Place in Brooklyn. ELSEWHERE is produced by Beth Morrison Projects.

Columbia University Continues Composer Portraits Series with Jonathan Harvey Tonight, 10/11

Miller Theatre at Columbia University School of the Arts continues the 2012-13 season of its Composer Portraits series with the works of eminent composer Jonathan Harvey, featuring Ensemble Signal with Brad Lubman, conductor. Ensemble Signal gives voice to two of the British composer's spiritual tours-de-force in this moving Portrait-Death of Light/Light of Death (1998) and Bhakti (1982).

Ballet Austin's LIGHT/THE HOLOCAUST AND HUMANITY PROJECT Comes to Miami, 11/3 & 4

The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County proudly presents the esteemed BALLET AUSTIN performing LIGHT / THE HOLOCAUST & HUMANITY PROJECT , a riveting contemporary ballet created by Artistic Director Stephen Mills that turns the spotlight on discrimination and the ultimate triumph of the human spirit. The performance, which inspired a community-wide human rights initiative by the same name, will take place in the Ziff Ballet Opera House on November 3 and 4, 2012.

SOLDIER SONGS to Make NYC Premiere at HERE's PROTOTYPE Festival, 1/11-13

Looking ahead to winter, David T. Little's evening-length multi-media music-theatre work, Soldier Songs (2006), receives its New York City premiere as part of BMP and HERE's inaugural PROTOTYPE: Opera/Theatre/Now festival January 11-13 + 16-18, 2013, showcasing pioneering work by a new generation of opera-theatre and music-theatre composers. Created and composed by Little, Soldier Songs is based on recorded interviews with veterans of five wars, with a libretto adapted by the composer.

FringeNYC Encore Series Begins Today

Now in its 7th year, the FringeNYC Encore Series gives theatre lovers another chance at seeing some of the most critically acclaimed and most crowd-pleasing shows from the Festival. Beginning September 7th, the FringeNYC Encore Series will present 19 'Best of The Festival' shows in rotating repertory at SoHo Playhouse and The Huron Club (both located at 15 Vandam Street between 6th Avenue & Varick) as well as at The Players Theater (115 MacDougal Street between Bleecker and Houston Streets). Todd Reynolds and More Set for Rite of Summer Music Festival Finale Tonight, 9/3

In a blazing Labor Day finale to Rite of Summer's 2012 season, Todd Reynolds, 'New York's reigning Jazz and Classical Violinist' (The New Yorker), and fiddle-player of choice for avant-gardists everywhere, has assembled a stellar cast of characters to explore the vortex where bluegrass, electronica, minimalism and classical music swirl. Featuring music of glass harmonica virtuoso Jonny Rodgers, avant-bluegrass guitarist Jordan Tice (The Jordan Tice Trio), and the singular percussionist Mathias Kunzli, currently on tour with Regina Spektor. This will take place on Colonels' Row tonight, September 3rd.

ACME Performs Steve Reich's String Quartets at Le Poisson Rouge, 9/11

Columbia University's Miller Theatre Announces 2012-2013 Season

Miller Theatre at Columbia University School of the Arts has announced its 2012-13, 24th Season. Including LE POÈME HARMONIQUE IN "VENEZIA," on opening night, eight intriguing composer portraits, featuring John Cage, Jonathan Harvey, Olga Neuwirth, Sofia Gubaidulina, Enno Poppe, Rebeecca Saunders, Oliver Knussen and Julio Estrada. Bach, Revisted, highlights innovators, baroque and modern alike, featuring Jennifer Koh teaming up with mentor Jaime Laredo, harpsichordist Kristian Bezuidenhout and Ensemble Signal playing Bach, Rebel and Michael Gordon, and pianist Christopher Taylor juxtaposing Bach and Rzewski.
