Strange Sun Theater - under the direction of Artistic Director Jessica Bashline - concludes its fourth season with productions of two works, THE ORCHARD, a new adaptation of the Chekhov classic, and ANGEL FOOD CAKE.

Asolo Repertory Theatre proudly presents an FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training touring production of THE TRAGEDY OF HAMLET. This brand new production, which will be presented during the 400th anniversary year of Shakespeare's death, is adapted and directed by Justin Lucero, director of the FSU/Asolo Conservatory's hit 2015 production of The Liar. This seventh annual educational touring production, THE TRAGEDY OF HAMLET, will tour schools and community venues throughout Sarasota and the state of Florida, from Tallahassee to Miami, from September 27 through November 22, 2016. There will be a special performance for educators, press, and the public on Today, September 30 at 6pm in the Cook Theatre, located in the FSU Center for the Performing Arts. 

Asolo Repertory Theatre announces that acclaimed actor Jack Willis will portray President Lyndon Baines Johnson in its production of Robert Schenkkan's political drama THE GREAT SOCIETY.

The Old Globe today announced the first production of its 2017 Summer Season: Guys and Dolls, a musical fable of Broadway. Based on the stories and characters by Damon Runyon, with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, Guys and Dolls will be directed and choreographed by Josh Rhodes, returning to the Globe after the great successes of Ken Ludwig's Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery, which he directed, and Bright Star, which he choreographed.

 Asolo Rep proudly announces the final production of its 2016-17 season: TWENTY THOUSAND LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA,  the stunning new theatrical re-imagination of Jules Verne's classic deep sea tale created by Craig Francis and Rick Miller, who will direct Asolo Rep's production, and presented by Canada's family-focused entertainment production company Kidoons and WYRD Productions.

The Russian Arts Theater and Studio (TRATS) continues its 2016/17 season with The Master and Margarita, based on Mikhail Bulgakov's extraordinary novel. A new adaptation written and directed by renowned Muscovite director Aleksey Burago, this production features long-time TRATS collaborators and actors, including Charles Anderson, Michael Donaldson, Toni Goldman, Perikles Mandinga, Luisa Menzen, Ariel Polanco, Ingrid Wheately, Christopher Zach, and Di Zhu.

Grammy® nominated, multi-platinum selling recording artist Deborah Cox (Broadway's Aida, Jekyll & Hyde; vocals for the Whitney Houston Lifetime movie Whitney) stars as the legendary African-American performer Josephine Baker. The shootings outside of two local Jewish institutions are featured tonight in a television special series HATE IN AMERICA on the Investigation Discovery channel. 14-year-old Reat Underwood and his grandfather Dr. William Corporon were shot to death by a neo-Nazi white supremacist Frazier Glenn Miller. Kansas City resident Terri LaManno was also murdered by Miller at another location.
