Concluding its highly successful 2015/16 season, Folger Theatre stages the world premiere of District Merchants, a variation of Shakespeare's play, The Merchant of Venice. Commissioned by Folger Theatre as part of the 2016 celebration of 400 years of Shakespeare and in tandem with the Folger exhibition America's Shakespeare, playwright Aaron Posner sets this new exploration of class and difference in our own political place of power, Washington, D.C., just after the Civil War.

Kitchen Theatre Company announced that it is expanding its Pay What You Can Night program for the 2014-2015 season. This program allows patrons who might not otherwise be able to afford a ticket to pay the amount that works for them.

The line-up includes readings of new plays by Ben Gassman, Tom Block, M.J. Kaufman, Lenelle Moise, Lila Feinberg and the featured workshop production of G-d's Honest Truth by Renee Calarco, directed by David Winitsky. As a rather humble musician myself, I can appreciate the patience and perseverance it takes to keep a group of musicians together for any outstanding period of time. I can also understand how changing one member can effect the dynamics of both the music and the people playing it. That's what makes playwright Michael Hollinger's OPUS so fascinating to me. Over the course of about 90 minutes you're taken backstage and onstage in various places,with a full access to the emotions and passions that come forth from, in this instance, a string quartet. The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis has put together a brilliantly spellbinding production that hits just the right note on every occasion.
