Lantern Theatre Company Holds CHEKHOV FESTIVAL, 11/5-21

Lantern Theater Company will present a weekend of literary events and performances with The Chekhov Festival from Friday, November 5 - Sunday, November 7, in celebration of the influential work of Russian playwright, short-story writer, and physician Anton Chekhov (1860-1904) during the 150th anniversary year of his birth. The Chekhov Festival features a series of performances, readings, and discussions with scholars over dinner. The three-day Festival is offered in conjunction with the 2010/11 season opener, Uncle Vanya (through Nov. 21), Lantern's first-ever production of a full-length Chekhov work.

Lantern Theatre Company Presents UNCLE VANYA, 10/21-11/21

Lantern Theater Company opens its 2010/11 season with a celebration of the influential work of Russian playwright, short-story writer, and physician Anton Chekhov (1860-1904) during the 150th anniversary year of his birth. The Lantern will present its first-ever production of a full-length Chekhov work with Uncle Vanya (Oct. 21 - Nov. 21), directed by the Lantern's Associate Artistic Director Kathryn MacMillan. The company will also present a weekend of special events with The Chekhov Festival from November 5 - 7.

The Gift Theatre Presents Martin McDonagh’s Lonesome West 11/4-12/19

The Gift Theatre presents Martin McDonagh's The Lonesome West directed by Gift ensemble member Sheldon Patinkin and featuring Gift ensemble members John Connolly, Paul D'Addario and John Gawlik, with guest artist Brittany Burch. 'The Lonesome West' opens November 1st to the press and November 4th to the public; previews October 28-31. The Lonesome West plans to run from November 4 to December 19. Showtimes are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 P.M., Sundays at 2:30 PM.

Finborough Theatre Wins Pearson Best Play Award

We are very pleased to announce that the Finborough Theatre's Pearson Playwright-in-Residence Anders Lustgarten has won the Catherine Johnson Award for Best Play for A Day at the Racists, which received its world premiere at the Finborough Theatre in March 2010. It is the third major award for the Finborough Theatre in the last three weeks, following its recent awards of The Empty Space Peter Brook Award 2010 and The Writers' Guild New Writing Encouragement Award 2010 for Artistic Director Neil McPherson.

A Contemporary Theatre concludes 2010 with the continuing run of Martin McDonagh's outrageous farce The Lieutenant of Inishmore, and welcomes the 35th Anniversary of ACT's holiday tradition, A Christmas Carol. Alongside Mainstage thrills, the Central Heating Lab at ACT is cooking up some mighty fine entertainment, featuring music and film from Jose Bold, short films from RAWSTOCK, as well as the return of Short Stories Live at Town Hall and the conclusions of the 2010 SOIL at ACT window displays and InterACTions 2010: Mindscapes. And it wouldn't be the holiday season without a special shopping opportunity: StageCraft will host an end of year Holiday Gift Bazaar, featuring one-of-a-kind art, jewelry and pottery from local theatre artists. Genesis West Presents CURSE OF THE STARVING CLASS, 11/5

On Friday, November 5, Genesis West of Santa Barbara will present the modern American masterpiece, Curse of the Starving Class by Sam Shepard with a newly revised edition by the playwright. A major work by one of contemporary theatre's most respected and celebrated writers; Time Magazine said, 'It may be his best.' Winner of the Obie Award for best play. The Village Voice called it, 'Epic, unpredictable and deliriously ironic'. Genesis West's production of this brilliant dark satire will be the Santa Barbara premier. The production will run through November 20, 2010 with performances Thursday through Saturday evenings at 8:00 pm at Center Stage Theater.
