Milwaukee Rep to Present AN ILLIAD, Begin. 2/25

Milwaukee Repertory Theater continues its 2013/14 60th Anniversary Season with a production of An Iliad, a modern adaptation of Homer's classic. Described as 'pure theater: shocking, glorious, primal, and deeply satisfying,' by Time Out New York, An Iliad features Wisconsin-based actor James DeVita and cellist Alicia Storin, a native of Mequon, Wisconsin. Written by Lisa Peterson and Denis O'Hare, An Iliad will be directed by John Langs, who returns to The Rep after directing I Am My Own Wife during the 2010/11 Season.

Milwaukee Rep Presents THE WHIPPING MAN, Now thru 3/16

The Rep continues its 60th Anniversary Season with The Whipping Man, the play The New York Times describes as 'filled with fine characterization and unexpected moments of humor.' The Civil War has ended, but for some, the struggle has just begun. A Jewish Confederate soldier, wounded in war, has returned from the battlefield to find that his family has fled. The only remaining household members are two former slaves, who have been raised by his family as Jews. Over a celebratory feast, family history is uncovered and dark secrets are revealed, forcing the men to come to terms with the sordid legacies of slavery and war that threaten each of their future freedoms. Written by Matthew Lopez, The Whipping Man will be directed by Associate Artistic Director Brent Hazelton. The cast features Ro Boddie, James Craven, both making their Rep debuts, and Josh Landay, who returns to The Rep after appearing as Tateh in Ragtime earlier this season. The Whipping Man runs in the Stiemke Studio from February 5 - March 16, and opens Saturday, February 8. (Please note special Saturday evening opening.) The Stiemke Season is generously presented by John and Connie Kordsmeier.

“I miss being loved,” the legendary Judy Garland sighs in The Milwaukee Rep's first Quadracci Powerhouse production of the year, End of the Rainbow. Peter Quilter's “play with music” highlights the star's last few weeks of her extraordinary successful yet troubled life and the title refers to the song that often defined Garland. The “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” the theme from her iconic film The Wizard of Oz that catapulted the young actress into the spotlight.

Hollis Resnik Leads Milwaukee Rep's END OF THE RAINBOW Tonight

Milwaukee Repertory Theater announced today that multi-award-winning actor Hollis Resnik will perform the lead role in End of the Rainbow, a theatrical homage to the late, great Judy Garland. An accomplished stage, television and film actor, Resnik brings the depth of acting and musical experience to portray the iconic Garland as well as the emotional intensity and high energy that the role demands. End of the Rainbow runs through March 9 and opens tonight, January 10 on The Rep's Quadracci Powerhouse main stage theater.

WOODY SEZ to Play Milwaukee Rep, 1/3-3/9

A joyous, toe-tapping, and moving theatrical concert event which celebrates the colorful life and rich musical legacy of America's greatest troubadour, Woody Sez: The Life and Music of Woody Guthrie features more than 25 songs including classics like "This Land is Your Land," "Pastures of Plenty" and "The Ballad of Tom Joad." The original folk hero, Woody Guthrie, and his infectious melodies defined an American era of political expression and transformed the folk ballad into a vehicle of social commentary and unity. The Rep is excited to kick off 2014 with a musical salute to this music icon in this award-winning production.

NOISES OFF Opens Tonight at The Rep's Quadracci Powerhouse

Called 'the funniest farce ever written' by the New York Post, Michael Frayn's uproarious play-within-a-play follows the on- and off-stage antics of the members of a mediocre touring company as they blunder from an ominously bad dress rehearsal to a spectacularly disastrous performance. The perfect show for the holiday season, Noises Off is a hysterical romp packed full of a side-splitting collection of forgotten cues, missed connections and backstage hilarity! Written by playwright Michael Frayn, Noises Off will be directed by KJ Sanchez, who returns to The Rep after directing last year's luminous production of The Diary of Anne Frank. The production features Rep Associate Artists Jonathan Gillard Daly, Laura Gordon, Gerard Neugent and Deborah Staples, frequent guest actor Kelley Faulkner, Chicago-based actors Aaron Christensen and Joe Dempsey and Rep Acting Interns Joe Boersma and Sara Zientek. Noises Off runs in The Rep's Quadracci Powerhouse from tonight, November 19 - December 22 and opens Friday, November 22.

Milwaukee Repertory Theater to Receive 2013 United Performing Arts Fund's Management & Organizational Performance Excellence Award

Milwaukee Repertory Theater announced today that it will be the recipient of the prestigious 2013 United Performing Arts Fund's Management & Organizational Performance Excellence Award, sponsored by Northwestern Mutual. Additionally, The Rep also announced that in honor of its 60th Anniversary Season, it is conducting a 60th Season Challenge fundraising campaign. The results from this campaign will help The Rep maintain its high level of artistic excellence and provide the quality theater that Milwaukee audiences have come to expect.

RAGTIME Becomes Milwaukee Rep's Bestselling Musical

Milwaukee Repertory Theater (Mark Clements, Artistic Director and Chad Bauman, Managing Director) is pleased to announce that the musical Ragtime, which opened on Saturday, September 21, is already the bestselling musical in The Rep's history after the first week of performances, surpassing the previous record holder, the musical Cabaret (2010/11 Season). Ragtime is also the biggest production ever produced on The Rep's Quadracci Powerhouse stage featuring a cast of 35 actors and 9 musicians. The production continues to run in The Rep's Quadracci Powerhouse through Sunday, October 27.

The Milwaukee Rep embarked on a new journey when Mark Clements presented a resplendent Ragtime to open the company's 60th anniversary season in September 2013. As Clements begins his second term as Artistic Director, this Ragtime production carries the audience for a ride on the 'wheels of a dream' with a lingering presence few will encounter. Every theatrical and musical detail, from the casting, costumes, lighting and stage design rose above any expectations the audience previously envisioned. Opening night for the Rep's 60th season proved awe inspiring, almost angelic, assuring the supreme possibilities inherent in any art performance.

RAGTIME Opens Tonight at Milwaukee Rep

Voted by Time Magazine as among the Top 100 Best Novels of the last century, this sweeping musical portrait of early 20th century America tells the powerful tale of a white, upper-middle class family, an African-American couple and an Eastern European immigrant escaping to America with his daughter, as they all confront the timeless contradictions of wealth, poverty, freedom, prejudice, hope, and despair in pursuit of the American Dream. Unfolding through the fiery rhythms of Harlem and Tin Pan Alley, and the vibrant klezmer of the Lower East Side, this vivid and unforgettable Tony-winning score bursts onto the stage 'on the wheels of a dream' in what will be the largest and most epic production ever staged at The Rep.

Milwaukee Rep's VENUS IN FUR to Open 9/27

Venus in Fur, the play that The New York Times calls, 'seriously smart and very funny,' kicks off The Rep's 60th Anniversary Season in the Stiemke Studio. In this sexy new play, audiences have the opportunity to first meet Thomas - a demanding playwright and director desperate for the perfect actress for his new stage adaptation of a classic erotic novel. Then along comes Vanda - an unusually talented young actress lusting after the leading role in the show. Through the comic genius of playwright David Ives, their late-night encounter in a deserted audition studio evolves from banal routine into a sizzling battle of the sexes blending love, libido and literature that will keep you wondering to the very end just who, exactly, is on top. Written by award-winning, contemporary playwright David Ives, Venus in Furwill be Directed by Rep Associate Artist Laura Gordon, whose other recent Rep directing credits include Gutenberg! The Musical!, In the Next Room (or the vibrator play) and Laurel and Hardy. The cast features Reese Madigan and Greta Wohlrabe. Venus in Fur runs in the Stiemke Studio from September 25 - November 3, and opens on Friday, September 27.
