TV: Meet the Company of Charles Busch's OLIVE & THE BITTER HERBS at Primary Stages!

Primary Stages is presenting the world premiere of the new comedy, Olive and the Bitter Herbs by Charles Busch with direction by Mark Brokaw. The play was commissioned by Primary Stages. The five-member cast features Dan Butler as Trey, David Garrison as Robert, Julie Halston as Wendy, Marcia Jean Kurtz as Olive and Richard Masur as Sylvan. BroadwayWorld was on hand with Richie Ridge to meet the company and takes you inside the first day of rehearsal below!

NY Stage & Film Season Opens; Will Feature Mario Cantone, Steven Slater, Duncan Sheik

New York Stage and Film (Johanna Pfaelzer, Artistic Director; Mark Linn-Baker, Max Mayer, Leslie Urdang, Producing Directors) and Vassar College (Ed Cheetham, Producing Director) have announced the full line-up of their 2011 Powerhouse Theater season, now entering its 27th year. The result of a unique collaboration between New York Stage and Film and Vassar College, the program consists of an eight-week residency on the Vassar campus (124 Raymond Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY) during which more than 200 professional artists and some 40 apprentices live and work together to create new theater works. The 2011 Main Stage season kicks off with Patricia Wettig's F2M (June 29 - July 10).

Linda Lavin, Michael Esper & Gregory Wooddell Lead THE LYONS at Vineyard this Fall

The Tony Award-winning actress Linda Lavin will head the cast of Nicky Silver's new play THE LYONS, to be given its world-premiere production Off-Broadway by the Vineyard Theatre. this fall with previews starting Wednesday, September 21, 2011 prior to its official opening night October 11, it has been announced by Douglas Aibel, artistic director of Vineyard Theatre. Mark Brokaw (HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE) will direct.

OTHER DESERT CITIES Hits Broadway 's Booth Theatre Next Season; Lavin Departs for Vineyard's THE LYONS

Lincoln Center Theater production of Jon Robin Baitz' OTHER DESERT CITIES, directed by Joe Mantello, opened on January 13 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. The cast features Stockard Channing, Stacy Keach, Linda Lavin, Elizabeth Marvel and Thomas Sadoski. Today, the New York Times suggests that the show is looking to transfer to Broadway, however, a full house on the Great White Way will prevent the show from making a spring move.

David Garrison Joins OLIVE AND THE BITTER HERBS at Primary Stages

Primary Stages (Casey Childs, Founder & Executive Producer; Andrew Leynse, Artistic Director; Elliot Fox, Managing Director) has announced today that David Garrison (By the Way, Meet Vera Stark) has joined the cast in the role of Robert for World Premiere of the new comedy, Olive and the Bitter Herbs by Charles Busch. Directed by Mark Brokaw, the previously announced cast will also feature Dan Butler as Trey, Julie Halston as Wendy, Marcia Jean Kurtz as Olive and Richard Masur as Sylvan. The play was commissioned by Primary Stages.

Christopher Burchett, Cherry Duke & More Lead Yale's 2011 Workshop

The YALE INSTITUTE FOR MUSIC THEATRE (Mark Brokaw, Artistic Director; Beth Morrison, Producer) announces the three original music theatre works selected for workshop in New Haven this June: Maren of Vardø, music by Jeff Myers, libretto by Royce Vavrek; The Pregnancy Pact, music by Julia Meinwald, book and lyrics by Gordon Leary; and The Profit of Creation, music by Tim Rosser, book and lyrics by Charlie Sohne.
