The Hansberry Project also brings to the stage Seattle's second Multicultural Playwrights Festival. ACT -A Contemporary Theatre rings in 2012 with new and continuing efforts that recognize achievements in outstanding playwriting and create the atmosphere for the development of new work. Playwright Angus MacLachlan (author of the highly acclaimed film Junebug) is named the 2012 ACT New Play Award winner for Abundant Acreage Available. Two FREE staged readings will be presented in ACT's Bullitt Cabaret February 25-26, 2012. Immediately following each reading are post-play discussions with the playwright and the director, Anita Montgomery.

No, this is ACT's production of "Mary Stuart" directed by Victor Pappas and starring two grande dames of local theater, Anne Allgood and Suzanne Bouchard. And with this much history and pedigree on stage, what you end up with is a cutting machination woven together with humor, heart and venom.

Last night, as part of the Rep's New Play Program and in conjunction with a more global event, The Seattle Rep presented a one night only staged reading of "The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later". Nearly 500 people were in attendance to this free reading of the play written by members of the Tectonic Theater Project, Moises Kaufman, Leigh Fondakowski, Greg Piertotti and Steven Belber.
