Photo Flash: American Theater Company Presents XANADU

American Theater Company (ATC) opens musical comedy Xanadu, the final production of its Legacy Season, this Sunday, June 5. Presented as a tribute to ATC's late Artistic Director PJ Paparelli-a not-so-secret fan of this camp classic-Xanadu is directed by Lili-Anne Brown and runs at ATC now through July 17, 2016. The production has music and lyrics by Jeff Lynne and John Farrar and a book by Douglas Carter Beane, based on the 1980 Universal Pictures film of the same title.

MY FAIR LADY Begins 6/4 at Light Opera Works

Lerner and Loewe's Broadway classic MY FAIR LADY, with 28-piece orchestra, will be staged by Light Opera Works at Cahn Auditorium in Evanston, June 4 through 12.

Lake Forest Theatre to Kick Off its Inaugural Season with THE SECRET GARDEN on June 10

Lake Forest Theatre presents its inaugural season opener, THE SECRET GARDEN, opening June 10 and running through July 2, with a press opening on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. Managing Artistic Director Steve Malone will direct the season opener at the newly renovated John & Nancy Hughes Theatre, 400 East Illinois Rd. in downtown Lake Forest. The production will be accompanied by a 15-piece live orchestra.

SoloChicago Theatre to Stage THE UNFORTUNATES at Theater Wit

Following its highly acclaimed inaugural production of Churchill, which played in Chicago, New York City and continues to play in several places around the country, SoloChicago Theatre is pleased to announce its second production - THE UNFORTUNATES by Australian playwright Aoise Stratford. SoloChicago Artistic Director Kurt Johns will direct the piece about survival, celebrity, violence and friendship, which begins performances June 17 at Theater Wit.

Light Opera Works Now Accepting Applications for MY FAIR LADY

Light Opera Works is currently taking applications for the summer teen production of MY FAIR LADY. Rehearsals are June 11 through 27, at the Light Opera Works rehearsal center, 516 4th Street in Wilmette. Technical rehearsals on June 28 and 29, and the free public performance on Thursday, June 30, at 7:30 pm, are at Cahn Auditorium, 600 Emerson in Evanston.

Enrollment Now Open for Light Opera Works' 2016 Summer Workshop

Light Opera Works is now accepting enrollments for the 2016 Musical Theater Summer Workshop. Young people ages 8 to 13 will learn singing, dancing and acting in preparation for a free public performance, where family and friends are invited to watch them perform a mini-musical. No experience or audition required, and everyone gets a part.

Porchlight Music Theatre to Revisit CHESS as Part of Ongoing Series, 5/3-5

Porchlight Music Theatre and Artistic Director Michael Weber are proud to announce the final production in the third smash season of Chicago's "lost" musicals in staged concert series, Porchlight Revisits Chess, music by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, lyrics by Tim Rice and Bjorn Ulvaeus and book by Tim Rice, with direction by Porchlight Artistic Director Michael Weber, choreography by Porchlight Artistic Associate Brenda Didier and music direction by Jimmy Morehead. Porchlight Revisits Chess is presented for three-nights-only Tuesday, May 3 through Thursday, May 5 at 7:15 p.m. and is performed on the set of Porchlight's Dreamgirls (previews begin April 8) on nights when there are no performances at Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont Ave. Tickets for Chess are $30 in advance and $35 at the door the night of the performance. All tickets include access to the popular pre-performance event, Behind the Show Backstory, a multi-media presentation, created and hosted by Weber, that discusses that evening's production including the show's creative history, juicy backstage gossip and more. Single tickets to Chess are available at porchlightmusictheatre.org or by calling the Stage 773 box office, 773.327.5252.  The 2016 - 2017 season subscriptions to Porchlight Revisits includes The Rink (October 4 - 6), Little Me (February 28 - March 2, 2017) and On a Clear Day You Can See Forever (May 9 - 11, 2017) are also available at porchlightmusictheatre.org.

Jamil Khoury's MOSQUE ALERT to Premiere at Silk Road Rising This Spring

Silk Road Rising and Executive Director Malik Gillani are proud to announce the World Premiere of MOSQUE ALERT, a new play written by Jamil Khoury and directed by Edward Torres. MOSQUE ALERT runs March 24 - May 1, 2016, in Pierce Hall at The Historic Chicago Temple Building, 77 W. Washington St, Lower Level, in Chicago. Press opening is Saturday, April 2 at 4:00 pm.
