Dallas Opera Cowboys Stadium Simulcast Receives More Than 10,000 RSVPs

The Dallas Opera, in partnership with Cowboys Stadium and with support from The Dallas Foundation, is delighted to report that the first milestone has been achieved: more than10,000 tickets have been requested for the free April 13th Dallas Opera Cowboys Stadium Simulcast at One Legends Way in Arlington, TX. Of that number, over 40% of the households have no previous purchase history or simulcast history with the Dallas Opera; while more than half of the tickets were requested by households that either attended or requested tickets for the initial simulcast last April.

FWOpera Announces Call for Submissions for Frontiers 2014

Fort Worth Opera (FWOpera) announced today a call for submissions for its second annual Frontiers new works showcase to be held during the 2014 Fort Worth Opera Festival. A pioneering leader in the production of contemporary opera, FWOpera launched Frontiers in the 2012-2013 season. One of the only programs world-wide designed to seek out unproduced works by up-and-coming composers from North, South, and Central America, the showcase provides composers and librettists a platform by which to gain exposure for their pieces in a live performance environment while also affording them valuable networking opportunities with industry professionals, including artistic directors of opera companies, artist managers, classical music publishers, funding organizations, and conductors.

American Opera Projects Participates in Brooklyn Public Library's Kwanzaa Project, 12/27 & 28

AOP (American Opera Projects) in partnership with The Walt Whitman Project will be participating in the Brooklyn Public Library's annual free Kwanzaa program today, December 27 at 3pm at the S. Stevan Dweck Auditorium at the Central Library, Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn Public Library (10 Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn, NY 11238). On Friday, December 28 at 2pm, the program will be repeated at the Rosetta Gaston Senior Center in Brownsville (460 Dumont Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11212.) Both performances are free and open to the public. Reservations are not necessary, but seating is first come, first served.

Tonight, October 25 through Saturday, October 27 at 7:30 PM, vocalist Theo Bleckmann and the American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME) will perform OUT COLD/ZIPPO SONGS- a double-bill of dramatic song cycles with music and lyrics by Phil Kline (Unsilent Night, John the Revelator) - presented as part of BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music)'s 30th Next Wave Festival, in a co-production with American Opera Projects (AOP).

BON APPÉTIT! Comes to the Dallas Opera, 2/9

The Dallas Opera has announced that mezzo-Soprano Susan Nicely will portray twentieth-century culinary icon Julia Child in composer Lee Hoiby's BON APPÉTIT! The one-act operetta, with a libretto by Mark Shulgasser and support from The Perot Foundation Education and Community Outreach Programs, is based on two episodes from Julia Child's popular cooking show in which she concocts a chocolate cake.

BERNSTEIN IN BLACK AND WHITE Kicks Off Copland House's 2012-13 Season Tonight, 9/8

Spirituals, several premieres, the sounds of Broadway, appearances by two Pulitzer Prize-winners and five Copland House resident composers, and music inspired by the words of Emily Dickinson, Walt Whitman, and William Shakespeare are among the highlights of Copland House's 2012-13 mainstage concert season.

Austin Pendleton Directs Boston Midsummer Opera's DON PASQUALE, Now thru 7/29

For its seventh season Boston Midsummer Opera (BMO) presents the comic piece, Donizetti's Don Pasquale, playing at the Tsai Performance Center at Boston University for three performances only, tonight, July 25, 27, and 29. Obie Award winner/Tony Award nominee Austin Pendleton directs the fully staged and costumed production. Music director and nationally acclaimed conductor Susan Davenny Wyner leads the performances, which will be performed with orchestra and sung in English. Metropolitan Opera bass Ricardo Lugo will sing the role of Don Pasquale.

Joshua Benevento and Jacqueline Thompson Headline Enrico Caruso Room Tonight, 5/22

Tenor Joshua Benevento, who made his Metropolitan Opera debut this season in Wagner's "Gotterdammerung" and soprano Jacqueline Thompson will perform together for the first time at The Enrico Caruso Room at Grotta Azzurra Ristorante in Little Italy tonight, May 22, 2012 at 8 PM. They will be supported on keyboard by David Schaefer.
