Japan Society Hosts Zorn@60 Concert Celebration Tonight

Japan Society is proud to host groundbreaking artists John Zorn and Ryuichi Sakamoto for an improvisatory pair of currently sold-out performances tonight, October 4 at 7:30pm and 9:30pm. This evening represents the final performance in the multi-show Zorn@60 celebration, commemorating John Zorn'skanreki, his sixtieth birthday; coinciding with the Japan Society Performing Arts Program's sixtieth anniversary celebration.

San Francisco Girls Choir to Present Holiday Concerts, 12/6 & 12/22

The five-time Grammy-winning San Francisco Girls Chorus-Lisa Bielawa, Artistic Director, and Valerie Sainte-Agathe, Music Director and Principal Conductor-- will present two holiday concerts,December 6 and 22 at First Congregational Church in Berkeley and Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco, respectively. The 40-voice San Francisco Girls Chorus will present "Noel, Noel" Friday, December 6, at 8 pm at First Congregational featuring holiday favorites and an audience sing-along. These 40 award-winning young artists will be joined by the full complement of nearly 400 members of the San Francisco Girls Chorus School, from ages 5 to 18, for the annual Davies Hall holiday extravaganza, Sunday, December 22, at 8 pm. This year's edition, entitled "Hark, the Herald Angels Swing!" will feature the Marcus Shelby Quintet and Shelby's new arrangements of "Go Tell It On The Mountain" and "Hark the Herald" written especially for the San Francisco Girls Chorus plus other seasonal favorites and an audience sing-along. SF Girls Chorus Opens Season with FRENCH IMPRESSIONS, 11/3

The five-time Grammy-winning San Francisco Girls Chorus will open its 2013-2014 35th anniversary season Sunday, November 3, 2013, at 7 pm at Marines' Memorial Theatre in San Francisco with a concert of music both French and French-inspired, conducted by new Music Director and Principal Conductor Valerie Sainte-Agathe. The program, entitled French Impressions, will feature Poulenc's Les petites voix; Maurice Ohana's 4 petits choeurs, Debussy's Nuit d'etoiles, Morton Lauridsen's Dirait-on, Eric Whitacre's Seal Lullaby, Antoine Busnoys' "A que ville" (with soloist Lisa Bielawa, new Artistic Director of the San Francisco Girls Chorus) and works by other composers. Gil Morgenstern's Reflections Series International Announces 2013-14 Season

Violinist and artistic director Gil Morgenstern's acclaimed Reflections Series International is pleased to announce its 2013-2014 season at a new home adjacent to New York's Highline Park, Avenues: The World School (259 Tenth Ave.). Reflections'relationship with Avenues is particularly appropriate, as the school seeks to integrate learning across subject areas in a globally aware setting. Avenue's state of the art black box theater, designed by architecture firm Perkins Eastman and interior design firm Bonetti/Kozerski Studio, is the perfect setting for Reflections' sophisticated but relaxed performances. Throughout the year, Gil Morgenstern will work with the students at Avenues on interdisciplinary projects both in and out of the classroom.

Tickets on Sale Today for Northrop Theatre's 2013-14 Dance Season

Northrop at the University of Minnesota announces single tickets go on-sale today, August 5 for its 2013-14 Northrop Season, which features world-class dance, including copresentations with The O'Shaughnessy at St. Catherine University's Women of Substance and Walker Art Center. Single tickets will be sold through each venue. Series packages continue to be on sale through Northrop.

Young Jean Lee Set Releases Her First Album Today

Young Jean Lee, whom The New York Times recently called 'hands down, the most adventurous downtown playwright of her generation,' will release her band Future Wife's first album, entitled We're Gonna Die and produced by Shannon Fields (Stars Like Fleas, Leverage Models), today, August 6.
