Long Beach Opera Breaks Fundraising Record

Surpassing its fundraising goal, Long Beach Opera's 37th Annual Gala raised over $210,000 to support its 2016 opera season and Youth Initiative Programs. Honorary Co-Chairs Barbara Bixby Blackwell and Jean Bixby Smith, along with LBO's Board of Directors, presented the fundraiser, 'Glittering Glamorous Giving,' on Saturday November 7, 2015 in the Lagunita Pavilion at the Hotel Maya, Long Beach.

Celebrity Impersonator La Voix Comes to Martinis Above Fourth Tonight

Tonight, November 3, Britain's award-winning diva makes her US debut in 'Diva Breakdown' at Martinis Above Fourth. Although La Voix hasn't performed in the US, she's well-known to American audiences from her many performances on Atlantis Cruises and in London. 'Diva Breakdown' will explore the minds of true legends; Judy Garland, Liza Minnelli, Shirley Bassey, Tina Turner, Cher and more analyzed, exposed, and satirically delivered, in her own spine-tingling vocals, by the international red-headed diva, La Voix. Wedow, Abell, Polianichko and Allen Conduct Lyric Opera of Kansas City's 2015-16 Season, Beginning Tonight

Lyric Opera of Kansas City General Director and CEO Deborah Sandler today announced the four conductors for the 2015-2016 season in the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. Gary Thor Wedow (pictured, left, Mozart's Don Giovanni), and David Charles Abell (Bizet's Carmen) will be returning to the Lyric Opera. Alexander Polianichko (Dvorak's Rusalka) and Christopher Allen (Donizetti's The Elixir of Love) will be making their Lyric Opera debut.

Chicago Opera Theater's LUCIO SILLA Begins 9/26

Chicago Opera Theater (COT) kicks its 2015/16 season off with the Chicago premiere of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's passionate story of love, power, bloody conspiracies and revenge, 'Lucio Silla' at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance (205. E. Randolph Drive) Sept. 26 - Oct. 4, 2015. Directed and designed by COT General Director Andreas Mitisek and conducted by the acclaimed Francesco Milioto, the opera, was written by the musical prodigy as a teenager for Milan's Teatro Regio Ducal in 1772.

Director Francesca Zambello to Receive San Francisco Opera Medal

Following the final curtain call for Friday's Opening Night performance of Verdi's Luisa Miller, San Francisco Opera General Director David Gockley will award stage director Francesca Zambello with the San Francisco Opera Medal-the highest honor bestowed by the Company to an artistic professional.

Audra McDonald and ABT to Join the LA Phil at The Hollywood Bowl Next Month

Los Angeles is in for a treat next month! Tony and Grammy-winner Audra McDonald comes to the Hollywood Bowl to sing classics from Broadway and the American Songbook with the Los Angeles Philharmonic under the direction of Bramwell Tovey, Tuesday and Thursday, September 1 and 3, at 8 pm. Audiences on both nights will be entertained by McDonald singing famous tunes by Rodgers and Hammerstein, Mancini and Mercer, and others. The evenings also feature gifted American Ballet Theatre dancers on stage to bring Bernstein's Fancy Free to life performing Jerome Robbins' 1944 choreography.

LUCIO SILLA and More Set for Chicago Opera Theater's 42nd Season

Chicago Opera Theater's General Director Andreas Mitisek today announced plans for the company's 42nd season. Chicago Opera Theater(COT) is shifting from a calendar year season to the more common fall-through-spring theater season. Kicking off the new 2015/16 season will be the Chicagopremiere of Mozart's Lucio Silla. Written in 1772, it displays the mature talents of the 16-year old prodigy in a gripping story about love, conspiracies, and revenge. With its scintillating score and awe-inspiring arias, Silla will be performed September 26, 30 and October 2, 4, 2015.
