At 8 pm the lights went down and, very quietly, Kris Kristofferson walked alone onto the stage of the Orleans Casino showroom. There was a black metal music stand to the right of where he stood. On it were a set list and, it seemed, a harmonica or two. He carried a guitar and a harmonica in a holder. He began to sing and, for 90 minutes or so, it was just Kris Kristofferson and his music.

Guitarist, singer, and songwriter Lukas Nelson was raised on his father Willie Nelson's famed Honeysuckle Rose bus. Today, the 21-year-old Nelson is still on the road, but with his own band, Promise of the Real. Joined by drummer Anthony LoGerfo, bassist Corey McCormick, and percussionist Tato Melgar, Promise of the Real is a blend of 'genuine rock ‘n' roll,' as the Oregon Music News notes-part American heart ‘n' soul, Latin tones, blues, funk, and a pinch of country.
Lincoln Center's acclaimed series American Songbook returns to the elegant Allen Room in January for its fourteenth season celebrating the diversity of American popular song. For 16 nights the series will explore the best of the golden age of musical standards through to today's most dynamic songwriting. The organization, which is dedicated to recognizing the work and lives of those composers and lyricists who create popular music around the world, holds annual elections to determine those who will make up the roster of inductees for the following year.
