The LA Phil's 2015/16 Songbook Series continues with Brian Stokes Mitchell at Walt Disney Concert Hall on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at 8:00 PM. The Tony®-winning singer, actor, arranger and musician joins long-time pianist and collaborator,Tedd Firth, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, led by conductor Kevin Stites, for 'In Character,' an evening of Broadway tunes filled with beauty, joy, whimsy, romance, and Stokes' signature, inspired vocal interpretations. Expanding on his most recent album, Simply Broadway (which USA Todaydeemed as 'one of the best albums of 2012'), Stokes will perform such Broadway classics as 'I, Don Quixote,' 'Feeling Good,' 'Wheels of a Dream' and 'It Ain't Necessarily So,' among many others.

WALNUT CREEK, CA (December 15, 2015) – The California Symphony and Music Director Donato Cabrera perform a program of music inspired by American jazz of the 1920s on Sunday, January 24, with pianist Charlie Albright joining the Orchestra for the original jazz band version of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. A suite of songs from Kurt Weill's The Threepenny Opera, Bernstein's little-heard Prelude, Fugue, and Riffs, Stravinsky's Scherzo à la russe, and Milhaud's Le création du monde complete the “American Roots” program. The concert is at 4 pm at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek, with a free pre-concert talk with Cabrera beginning at 3 pm.

Three one-hour programs at noon on October 25, November 22, and December 20 each feature a different singer showcasing styles including classical, soul, and jazz. Brunch will be available for purchase before and during the performances, and patrons are encouraged to dress casually.
