Instead of creating the expected for her 50th Anniversary Tour -- a retrospective of her greatest hits -- Twyla Tharp's restless spirit demanded she choreograph two brand new works for her troupe of 13 dancers. The ten-week cross-country celebration, which showcases the two new dances, "Preludes and Fugues" and "Yowzie", opens at the AT&T Performing Arts Center, presented by TITAS, in Dallas on September 18-19 and concludes at Lincoln Center's Koch Theater, November 17-22.

New York is the home of some of the most renowned and exemplary dance companies in the world, such as New York City Ballet and American Ballet Theater. It is quite easy for New York balletomanes to fall into the habit of seeing the same iconic and large-scale works year after year. While there is nothing wrong with seeing particular dancers perform well-known works with their respective companies repeatedly, it is quite refreshing to see some of these New York based dancers perform new works on a much smaller scale.

Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) announces the Fall 2014 performance season, which runs September 17 to December 18. The BAC Presents series will feature the World, U.S., and New York Premieres of contemporary theater, dance, music, and multimedia works that have either been commissioned by BAC or created by artists who have been in residence at BAC. The season lineup also includes BAC Space 2014 -- a new initiative of BAC's Residency Program -- which reflects BAC's core mission to support artists at various stages of their artistic development, and expose audiences to innovative, contemporary new work.
The School of American Ballet's Workshop Performance Benefit 2014 on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 celebrated 50 years of these annual performances and raised nearly $860,000 for scholarships and school programs. The evening began with cocktails at 5:30pm in Juilliard's Morse Hall, followed by the presentation of the Mae L. Building on their long-running relationship which began in 2000 while dancing at ABT, Wiles and Reeder have collaborated on a diverse program that includes two premieres, Surmisable Units and Different Homes, as well as Picnic which was created for BalletNext in 2012. Live music will accompany the dancers by the BalletNext Ensemble led by noted Israeli cellist Elad Kabilio and featuring Julliard pianist, Ben Laude.
