From today, Aug. 2 through Mon. Aug. 5, Boog's 22nd anniversary will be celebrated by putting on the seventh annual Welcome to Boog City poetry, music, and theater festival. It will feature 71 poets, 19 musical acts, 10 tabling small presses, 8 poets theater plays, 3 political talks, 2 poets in conversation with one another, 1 d.a. levy lives visiting press, 1 poetry workshop, and 1 small press publishing panel over the four days.

Just over four weeks from now, from Fri., Aug. 2 through Mon. Erin Markey returns to Joe's Pub tonight, March 15. Known for her dark wit and absurdist transformations, Markey has been likened to Kristen Wiig, Kathy Acker and Eileen Brennan. Erin weaves together an exciting bill of R&B, 90's pop and grunge, standards and original music under the direction of Ben Rimalower (Leslie Kritzer is Patti LuPone at Les Mouches) with musical direction by Tony-nominated Kenny Mellman (Kiki and Herb).

Boog City's last Todays series now features the new BoogWork series alternating with the 10th season of the levy lives: celebrating the renegade press series. BoogWork will feature two poets reading, a musical act performing, and then one of the poets will give the gathered a poetry workshop (don't forget to bring a pen and paper). The event on October 30th will feature a reading and workshop from Amy King, a reading from Sara Jane Stoner, and music from Joseph Keckler.
